At FBI Headquarters Lieutenant Ray Blanchard is tasked with investigating a high quality banknote forging operation. The United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Finding no leads in New York, New Orleans or Chicago, the Special Agent flies to London after realising that there may be a connection with GIs who remained in Europe after the war.

Met by Detective Inspector Mann, Blanchard is driven to Scotland Yard. The road entrance / exit of London Airport on Bath Road in Hayes & Harlington, Middlesex.

The Oldsmobile 88 turns out of the airport. Bath Road with the Heathrow Restaurant at the corner of Sipson Road on the left. The garage remains in place with updated buildings.

Blanchard reckoned the Inspector to be a typical slow moving cop. Looking towards Gillette Corner on Great West Road in Brentford, Middlesex.

The camera pans with the car. Great West Road with the Firestone Building on the left and the Pyrene building at number 981 to the top right. This section of road can also be seen in 'The Lavender Hill Mob'.

When they arrive at their destination, Blanchard is not impressed by his first sight of the famous Scotland Yard. Derby Gate off Parliament Street in SW1.

An unsatisfying ground shot but The Red Lion still thrives on the left. The north branch of Cannon Row has been built over and is now a small recess. SJ

Blanchard and his old buddy Mike Stephens from the US Embassy drive away after visiting the first base. Antony Blair recognised the Guard Room at RAF Northolt on West End Road, Ruislip in Middlesex . . . seconded moments later by Geoff Dodd.

Antony Blair captured the new entrance to the RAF Station on West End Road, which was built around 2010, with the replica Hurricane in the background.

The shot follows the car onto the main road. West End Road, Ruislip with Ruislip Gardens station in the right distance identified by Antony Blair, again seconded by Geoff Dodd.

With nothing to show for their efforts, Blanchard asks Stephens to book him on a flight back to Washington. The United States Embassy on the corner of Grosvenor Square and Grosvenor Street W1.

It's tricky to replicate the angle with a tree in full leaf in the way. SJ

When Inspector Man calls with information, Blanchard and Stephens head for Scotland Yard. The United States Embassy at number 1 Grosvenor Square in Mayfair.

Stepping to the right slightly to avoid a larger vehicle blocking the view. SJ

Ray Blanchard (Robert Ayres) and Mike Stephens (Larry Cross) make their way to a stake out opposite the flat belonging to Paula, a waitress at the Albatross Club.

Keeping the premises under observation, the Police wait for Paula to leave with a man nicknamed Loudmouth.

Inspector Mann arrives in a patrol car which parks nearby.

When Loudmouth drives away with Paula, Blanchard, Mike and the Inspector follow in their cars.

Steve "Loudmouth" Willetts (John Slater) escorts Paula (Magda Miller) into Albatross Club.

After his photograph is taken inside the club, Loudmouth's picture is circulated to Officers all over London. Derby Gate in SW1.

Blanchard makes an unusual request and the Inspector agrees to introduce him to Soapy, an ex-convict turned informer. Facing north on Victoria Embankment SW1.

The view is now compromised by lane reorganisation and long-standing refurbishment of the Norman Shaw North Building. SJ

The pair follow the the Thames towards Pimlico. Millbank SW1 at the corner of Thorney Street with Lambeth Bridge visible through the trees.

Even in winter, Lambeth Bridge is barely visible. SJ

Leaning on a parapet looking over the river, Soapy waits for Inspector Mann. Grosvenor Road in SW1, opposite Antrobus Street.

A little bit has been added to the wall's column to level it. SJ

With the Old Man in the car, Blanchard explains what's required. Grosvenor Road at the corner of Antrobus Street in Pimlico. The lost thoroughfare once ran from the river into where the Churchill Gardens Estate now stands.

The colouring of the brick work in the wall on the left remains. SJ

That night, outside the Albatross Club, Loudmouth helps Soapy up when he falls against his Nash Rambler.

Arriving home to discover that his pocket had been picked and his wallet taken, Loudmouth hurries back to his car.

Loudmouth drives towards the London docks.

The camera finds Loudmouth's Nash passing through darkened streets.

A safe distance behind, Blanchard and Inspector Mann follow their quarry.

This is looking eastward along Wapping Wall from the corner of Garnet Street in E1.

Approaching a warehouse, Loudmouth slows down before coming to a halt.

Blanchard follows Loudmouth through the maze of riverside warehouses.

Keeping out of sight, Blanchard enters the warehouse where he sees Loudmouth knocked out by Earl, a stranger previously spotted in the Albatross Club.

Arriving on the scene in car S43, a Police Driver (Joe Wadham) radios to request the cooperation of the River Police.

Blanchard spots Earl Rutters (Earl Cameron) get into a boat and set off along the river.

When the River Police launch arrives, Inspector Mann and Blanchard climb in and begin to follow Rutters.
