Son of Dracula

In Transylvania during the 1800s, Count Dracula is killed by an unknown Assassin. Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire. (SR)

100 years later, Count Downe curtails his travelling and make his way to England by the Channel Tunnel Train Transporter when summoned by Merlin, the family advisor.

At a petrol station not far from the tunnel. Wendy (Beth Morris) comes out to attend to the Count's hearse.

Walking to the house to get change for a large note, the young Woman turns when she hears the hearse drive away.

Watching the hearse disappear along the road, Wendy returns to her Boyfriend to find him her dead before Count Downe appears.

Transformed into a Vampire Bat, Count Downe flies back into the hearse before they reach Merlin's house.

After Merlin explains the arrangements for his coronation at the Museum of the Occult, Big Ben chimes the hour as Count Downe (Harry Nilsson) climbs the steps to Westminster Bridge while walking alone with his thoughts. Now known as The Queen's Walk, part of the Jubilee Walkway created in 1977, this is looking towards the riverside promenade in front of County Hall in SE1.

It's a lot clearer in daylight. SJ

There are signs of the covers coming down but we await to see whether Michael Caine in Pulp is still on. SJ

By way of Leicester Square, Count Downe makes his way to Trafalgar Square. Trafalgar Square in WC2 with the South African High Commission in the background.

The commission would be mostly hidden by leafy trees if I'd visited a month later, with, in front, the Admiral Beatty memorial fountain on the east side of the square. SJ

The Count glances through shop windows before making his way to Tramp, a private club on Jermyn Street, where he plays piano and sings 'At My Front Door'.

Continuing his nighttime wanderings, Count Down finds a Woman in Black laying flowers on a coffin in a crypt. A glimpse of Highgate Cemetery on Swain's Lane N6 . . . without which no vampire story is complete!

Wanting to rid himself of immortality so that he can live a normal life with his lover Amber, the Count is driven to Merlin's house. Merlin tells the Count that Baron Frankenstein can perform an operation to make him mortal. Number 26 Sussex Place seen from Outer Circle NW1 located by SJ.

Just in time before spring really bursts through to further obscure no.26. SJ

The Count is taken to the Harley Street clinic of Baron Victor Frankenstein.

Following an explanation of the procedure, Count Downe leaves Frankenstein's clinic.

Followed by Igor pushing their patient on a trolley, Dr. Baron Victor Frankenstein (Freddie Jones) arrives at the Thornton Medical Institute. Geoff Dodd identifies this as Inverforth House, North End Way, London NW3. Also seen in 'Private Road', 'Bartleby', and 'First Man into Space'. (RL)

Sitting nearby in his car, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing monitors activity within the institute. This appears to be the north-west side of The Pryors on East Heath Road NW3 as seen in 'American Werewolf in London', 'Sapphire', 'The Chain' and 'Arthur? Arthur!' SJ

Looking from the junction with Well Walk. SJ

A Motorcyclist stands ready. A difficult location to pin down . . .

. . . as there are a few mature trees on Well Walk. This tree on Well Road looks promising but it may, er, well be wrong. SJ

Receiving a radio message from Dr. Van Helsing, the Motorcycle Escort rides away in accordance with plan B. Well Road NW3, looking in the direction of East Heath Road.

This is indeed Well Road but parked cars forced me to move more to the left than I would have wished. SJ

Jumping up the kerb, the Escort rides along a footpath. Well Passage seen from Well Road in Hampstead.

The bollards, between nos. 8 & 9 Well Road, remain though one could still squeeze a bike through them. SJ

As Dr. Frankenstein prepares his radioactive equipment at the institute, the Motorcyclist appears at the other end of the lane. Looking south-west on Well Road with the entrance to Well Passage on the left.

The lampost still there is directly in front of Well Passage. SJ

Other Riders join the Escort. Well Road with Cannon Lane on the right.

Again parked cars meant stepping out for a clear view of the wall. SJ

Dr. Frankenstein waits patiently as his Monster helps Igor (Skip Martin) load their patient into an ambulance. As Capture 18 Geoff Dodd identifies this as Inverforth House, North End Way NW3. (RL)

Dr. Van Helsing moves off. Denis Hoare identifies the location as the side of The Pryors, just where Lime Avenue meets East Heath Road. Opposite is Well Walk, London NW3. (RL)

Denis Hoare, having identified the location, felt obliged to provide the comparative shot for us. The dense undergrowth to his right, seen in the comparative shot for the following capture, shows why he was unable to achieve a more accurate angle. (RL)

The shot follows the Doctor's car as he reaches the main road where he's joined by his Escort. The car, according to Denis Hoare, has turned right from Lime Avenue into East Heath Road, NW3. (RL)

That same undergrowth prevented Denis achieving the perfect angle here too. (RL)

Dr. Frankenstein leaves the institute. Geoff mentions that this is an internal gate on the estate of Inverforth House, North End Way NW3 and was seen in an episode of 'The Saint' entitled 'The Persistent Patriots'. (RL)

Dr. Frankenstein's ambulance travels along a main road before the three Motorcyclists catch up and force the vehicle to turn onto a side lane. The width of the unmarked roadway is suggestive of Longcross Military Test Track near Chobham in Surrey.
