Trouble with 2B, The (Children’s Film Foundation)

‘Happy Days’ begin at the Horace Hopcroft School in Central London, in reality the Hugh Myddleton Secondary School, where the Headmaster is marking books and Mr. Potter is teaching a science lesson.

The old place has scrubbed up good. PW

Following an explosion, the Headmaster looks towards the lab where Class 2B are having their lesson to see smoke pouring from the window. Hugh Myddleton School in EC1.

A car enters the school playground. Looking onto the playground at Hugh Myddleton Secondary School with the junction of Sans Walk and St. James's Walk to the centre.

Getting out of his Ford Cortina, Mr. Swindon (Richard Pescud) takes note of the time. Hugh Myddleton Schools were opened as the Hugh Myddleton Board School in 1893 by the Prince of Wales and had places for 2000 pupils.

Checking his watch, the Headmaster (John Warner) makes his way towards the new maths teacher. Hugh Myddleton School closed in 1971 but remained in use as a further education college until conversion into apartments in 1999.

The pair shake hands before Mr. Swindon is taken to meet 2B. The playground at Hugh Myddleton Secondary School with the Hugh Myddleton Infants School in the background, the modern buildings replacing the Primary School which was destroyed during World War II.

Taking what he believes to be a "happy spray" invented by Mr. Potter to calm wasps, Mr. Swindon makes his way back to 2B. The Hugh Myddleton Secondary School also features in 'Junket 89'.

‘On the Air’ begins with Daisy (Linda Robson), Junket (Stephen Brassett) and Jones (Peter Newby) leading 2B from Mr. Grotti's music lesson after the class are told they've been chosen to perform for a 'Radio for Schools' broadcast. Hugh Myddleton School in Clerkenwell. Filming likely took place after the school had closed.

On their way home, the Children see a sign in the window of Moody's Pie Shop advertising free pies the next day as it's the shop's 100th anniversary. Looking northward along Rosoman Street EC1 with number 10 on the right.

Facing the same direction o what has been renamed Northampton Road.

The following morning a BBC broadcast van arrives at the school. Through the gates of Hugh Myddleton Secondary School stands the building at the corner of Sans Walk and St. James's Walk.

When the Pupils disappear before the broadcast, music master Mr. Grotti (Roger Booth), the Headmaster and Albert Potter (Richard Wilson) cycle from school to look for them followed by the BBC van. Looking north-west along St. James's Walk EC1 towards Sans Walk and the Hugh Myddleton Secondary School building. A similar view can be seen in 'About a Boy'.

Redevelopment fills the area out of shot to the left. PW

The BBC van overtakes the masters. With painted directions on the corrugated sheets, to the right is what appears to be the Avenue Dairy, still trading amidst a terrace of empty premises.

At a pedestrian crossing, the BBC van stops to let the Pupils cross the road. The junction of Rosoman Street, Exmouth Market, Tysoe Street, Garnault Place and Myddelton Street in EC1 with The London Spa public house in the background.

Currently known as the Coin Laundry, the former Finch's is still open. PW

Molly (Pauline Quirk) leads the Class as they turn a corner near the pie shop. Rosoman Street EC1 with the corner of Corporation Row to the right and the Hugh Myddleton Secondary School beyond the wall.

The third part of the serial has games teacher Mr. Springer (Ron Hackett) locked in a ‘Trial of Strength’ as he's pulled across the playground during a tug-of-war match against Junket who has drunk Potter's "mighty strength solution". The playground at Hugh Myddleton Secondary School, now known as Kingsway Place.

Mr. Springer celebrates his win after the potion wears off and Junket becomes tired. Hugh Myddleton Secondary School with the tower of St. James's church on Clerkenwell Close in the right background.

As the Teachers and Pupils prepare their presentations inside the school, Parents (including Michael Brennan and Dermot Kelly) begin to arrive for 'Parents' Day'. Looking towards the south corner of the playground at Hugh Myddleton Secondary School.

After the Headmaster inadvertently swallow Mr. Potter's elixir intended to make him 'Thirty Years Younger', the School Inspector (Roger Hammond) arrives. The gates to Hugh Myddleton School with Sans Walk and St. James's Walk beyond.

To keep him away from the badly behaved Head, the Inspector is led to the school's storage area. The small yard lies within Hugh Myddleton Secondary School.

As Potter and the rest of 2B try to bring the Headmaster back to his correct age, Dot (Caroline North) and Molly make the Inspector a cup of tea. In the background stand buildings on Sans Walk and Clerkenwell Close.

To brighten the school up in preparation for the "best kept school" competition, Miss Greenleaf (Fanny Carby) takes Molly and Dot in search of plants in ‘Blackboard Jungle’. Outside number 11 Bowling Green Lane in EC1 at the corner of Robert's Place.

Getting tired, the Girls sit down and let Miss Greenleaf wander off alone. Facing Robert's Place from Clerkenwell Close, a location from 'A Fish Called Wanda'.

Spotting a multitude of plants and flowers beyond a fence, Miss Greenleaf is disappointed to find the gate closed.

The limousine bringing the Mayor and Mayoress to judge the competition parks beneath the laboratory where Potter is growing huge tomatoes. Hugh Myddleton School in Clerkenwell.
