MEMORIES from Stevie Campbell nee Manser

I remember this film being made in Windsor, Berkshire. I lived with my parents above the shop F. A. Miles greengrocers & fruiterer’s on the corner of Oxford Road & Grosvenor Place, Windsor. It was an open style shop with no windows but shutters all around so it looked more like a market stall type of shop. The shop belonged to my uncle, Fred Miles & my dad Jack Manser ran the shop for him. The cast and crew of the film used our downstairs toilet whilst filming & we got to know many of them. I used to help mum (Doreen) make trays of tea & coffee for everyone!

My dad hit it off with Sid James as they both liked a gamble & would go to the betting shop across the other corner together. Sadly the shop was pulled down for redevolopement along with many more to make way for a concrete block called Ward Royal which is still there today. I still have the autographs of Sid James, Una Stubbs, Joe Brown & many more.  I also have Cilla Black & Bamber Gasgoines too, but can’t remember if it was from another film as there was quite a bit of filming in & around Oxford Road in the 1960’s.
It was a happy time & the cast & crew were really friendly.
