In future Britain, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and later volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society’s crime problem… but not all goes to plan.

Additional Information:

The milk bar scene with erotic utility sculptures was based in part on the JG series of 75mm lead alloy figures made in the 1970’s by Soldiers’ Soldiers, a model soldier shop in Lambeth London SE1 owned by our founder John Tunstill.

This film was “re-visited” by Dave Wilson in 2017 when he provided improved and additional screen captures.

During his favoured visit to Manor Lodge School in 2022 with a view to taking the required external shots, Geoff Dodd was fortunate in being shown the inside locations. We are very grateful to both Geoff and the Head Teacher for sharing them with us, the relevant captures and comparative shots can be viewed here.

Can you help:

If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

Underpass at Trinity Road, Wandsworth.

Now. Brad Stevens. Location in Tony Reeves' book on London Locations.

Same, or similar underpass.

Now. Same place, wide angle lens. Two shots, same place.

Mr Alexander (Patrick Magee) and Mrs Alexander (Adrienne Corri) are about to get an unfortunate and life scarring visit from Alex (Malcolm McDowell) and his droogs. This road shot seems to have been captured on the lane leading to Munden House which is off School Lane, Bricket Wood WD25. Videos on the internet of this location show that the two pillars in the foreground are no longer there. They were probably added by the film production, as in reality the road does not come to a dead end.

A switch in locations from the previous shot as Alex and his gang make their way through the Japanese Garden located at the so called 'New House' in Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire.

After Dim (Warren Clarke )suggests bedways is rightways, Alex the gang head homeways to get a bit of spatchka. Alex is walking in the area around Yarnton Way in Thamesmead, London. Much of the area has since been demolished and redeveloped.

This contemporary shot was submitted by website visitor Alan Hoare. It certainly seems to suggest the location may be about to endure some further demolition.

At the shorside of South Mere lake, Thamesmead South, near Woolwich SE London. Location Tony Reeves.

Pete (Michael Tarn) prepares himself to fend against Alex's sudden violent outburst at South Mere lake, Thamesmead, London.

The exterior of the Miss Weathers, the catlady (Miriam Karlin) house is Manor Lodge School, Rectory Lane, Ridge Hill, Shenley, Radlett WD7.

Consequent to a visit to Manor Lodge as a result of its appearance in 'The Avengers', 'The Protectors', 'Inspector Morse' and other productions Geoff Dodd kindly thought of Reelstreets to provide this and the following three comparative shots. (RL)

The cat lady refuses to be fooled by the first approach, so the group creep around the side of Manor Lodge School, Rectory Lane, Ridge Hill, Shenley, Radlett WD7.

With thanks to Geoff. (RL)

They seek an open window to slip through at the rear of Manor Lodge School, Rectory Lane, Ridge Hill, Shenley, Radlett WD7.

Whilst providing this comparative shot Geoff adds "a new extension has been built in recent years (to the right of this shot where the double doors are) which means that the footprint of the building is now completely different and that the first floor window the Droogs use to gain entry no longer exists, along with the second window on the ground floor adjacent to the drainpipe visible in the capture. (RL)

Dim (Warren Clarke), Pete (Michael Tarn) and Georgie (James Marcus) have a milky surprise waiting for their leader Alex outside the Catlady residence at Manor Lodge School, Rectory Lane, Ridge Hill, Shenley, Radlett WD7.

A slightly wider view of the frontage from Geoff. (RL)

Lecture Theatre 'E' at Brunel University identified by Andrew Ward. Other views of the university feature in 'Summer School' and 'Me Without You'.

Now. Peter Bathurst, thanks.

Chelsea Embankment, Albert Bridge.

Now - first of three, featuring, - you know who -, John Tunstill! (cheers from the audience). Taken by Brian Tunstill.

Chelsea Embankment

Now. JT by BT.

Chelsea Embankment. In this shot you can see the bridge is a true suspension bridge; the now shot shows the addition of a pier in the middle of the bridge as it had become unsafe and needed the extra support, or would have been closed permanently to traffic. Robert Cornelius

Now. Same again. This time with.....you know who!

Under the Albert Bridge.

Now. Another pic by BT.

Under the Albert Bridge again.

Room 10, Edgwarebury Hotel, Elstree. Site visitor Yvonne says that the room Alex jumps from, Room 10, is now called 'The Trafalgar Suite' in the renamed Manor Hotel... With many thanks to Jo who has worked in the hotel several years who names it The Piccadilly Room as I found out after a recent visit. I also noted the Trafalgar room looked out onto the front garden rather than the open fields. (SJ)
