The Man, Valmy, is a member of the OAS (Organisation de l'Armee Secrete) lead by Lieutenant-Colonel Bastien-Thiry. N. Patris found Boulevard Malesherbes, Paris, with the church of Saint Augustin in the background.

The extremist OAS had sworn to kill the President of France, General Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle. The junction of Rue de Lisbonne and Rue de Monceau, Paris with the gates to Parc Monceau to the right.

Time moves on as Valmy waits. N. Patris adds 'The clock is obvioulsy on top of the gate of the Hotel de Soubise, but it doesn't exist now, and I found no info about it or its removal'.

This entrance to Montparnasse – Bienvenüe Metro station has disappeared along with the old Gare Montparnasse which was moved southwards and replaced with Tour Montparnasse, a 210-metre tall office block, between 1969 and 1972.

Now here's a puzzle - Gare Montparnasse appears to be in use in this shot yet Wikipedia and other websites say that the station was completely rebuilt in 1969, four years before this film was made. Any answers gratefully received. It had certainly been re-built in 2011 when Jamie Crocker took the comparison shot for the following capture. Nigel Southworth has found the answer! In the book Fred Zinnemann : Interviews it is stated that Zinnemann rebuilt part of the old station. "What we did was to rebuild the lower floor of the Gare Montparnasse, the entrance to the metro station, and the little house for people who were waiting for the bus." (RL)

The letter states that a fair haired foreigner who may have the codename Jackal is going to take the life of the President. N. Patris found Place du Carrousel, inside the Louvre, Paris.

Whilst the authorities try to trace Charles Calthrop, the Jackal checks out of Hotel Colombia, Via Balbi, Genova.

However, this was faked because the actual location is Avenue Sylvio de Monleon, Roquebrune Cap Martin in France. In other words, it was actually filmed in France although meant to be Italy. After deciding to continue with the assassination, the Jackal drives along the Route des Alpes through Entrevaux, Alpes de Haute Provence and on towards Paris., a location found by N. Patris.
