Goodbye Gemini

A Pan-Am branded coach heads towards London. A Piccadilly Line service departing from Boston Manor passes over the M4 motorway in Brentford, Greater London.

The same section of motorway captured by Antony Blair almost 50 years later.

Left of centre stands Wallis House next to the Great West Road in Brentford with the M4 running above. Wallis House was home to Beecham at the time of filming but is now full of "stunning" apartments.

Having left the motorway, the coach follows the River Thames. Cheyne Walk SW3 with the chimneys of London Underground's Lots Road power station visible in the right distance. The location was seen in 'Otley'.

The camera follows the coach. In the right distance stand Battersea power station and Albert Bridge as seen from a balcony of More's Garden at the corner of Cheyne Walk and Beaufort Street.

After alighting from the coach, Julian (Martin Potter) and Jacki Dewar (Judy Geeson) walk towards home. Chelsea Embankment SW3.

Not entirely sure I have the right spot but this looks close. SJ

The twins carry their holdall between them. Looking eastward towards Albert Bridge on Chelsea Embankment.

I turned around, changed the zoom and took this. Again not quite the same spot but it'll do for now until replaced when I finally get it right. SJ

The two approach the house where they're staying whilst home from university. Cheyne Walk in Chelsea SW3.

When they ring the bell, the housekeeper answers the door. Cheyne Walk again.

After placing a teddy bear at the top of the stairs, Julian rings the door bell before running from the house. Cheyne Walk in London SW3.

The sculpture disappeared from the empty plinth a long time ago but not before Jack Hawkins strangled it in jealousy in 'Theatre of Blood'. SJ

As Julian vaults over a fence, Mrs McLean, the housekeeper, trips on the bear and falls down the stairs. Cheyne Walk at the junction of Cheyne Gardens.

This initially confused me until I realised that the house to the left appears to have been partially rebuilt and certainly its entrance has moved. SJ

Like a child, Julian walks along the top of a wall. Looking onto the Thames from Chelsea Embankment.

After immersing themselves in the swinging pub and club scene, the pair attend a party on a houseboat. Looking towards Lots Road power station from Battersea Bridge.

At the party, Julian speaks with Denise Pryce-Fletcher (Marion Diamond) as Jacki meets politician James Harrington-Smith. Properties on Cheyne Walk can be seen to the left of centre. The buildings were also seen in 'The Horses Mouth' and 'The Naked Truth'.

Clive Landseer (Alexis Kanner) takes Julian back to the Woodlands Hotel.

A foggy morning dawns and Julian returns home to his sister after being raped by acquaintances of Clive. Albert Bridge from Chelsea Embankment.

Definitely the right spot. SJ

After she and her brother kill Clive, Jacki runs through the streets where James Harrington-Smith finds her.

Jacki leaves Harrington-Smith's apartment after being taken back there by the politician.

A taxi takes Jacki back home. Facing the corner of Cheyne Walk and Cheyne Gardens SW3.

Harrington-Smith confronts Jacki about the murder after she returns to his apartment, but she has no recollections. Imperial Court seen from Prince Albert Road in NW1.

With some atmospheric tree branches to boot. SJ

Detective Inspector Kingsley (Peter Jeffrey) arrives outside Harrington-Smith's apartment block. This appears to be looking out from the ground floor of London House onto Avenue Road NW8. The location was seen in 'Say Hello to Yesterday'.

After lying to the police about Jacki's whereabouts, Harrington-Smith leaves his flat on the following morning. London House at the corner of Avenue Road and Allitsen Road in NW8.

The camera tilts down to see a taxi being hailed. The crossroads formed by Avenue Road, St. Edmund's Terrace and Allitsen Road.

Jacki leaves the apartment block in an attempt to jog her memory about events and to find her brother. Looking out from the ground floor of London House onto Avenue Road NW8 with part of St. Christina's School in the centre background.

The school's still there but another block has replaced the houses on the left. SJ

A police officer watches as the young girl runs barefoot across grass. The number on the gate post is 84. And Denis Hoare tells us that it is 84 Prince Albert Road, London NW8 since demolished to make way for "Park View" on the corner with Charlbert Street. Denis provides an up to date shot, basically confirming that the tree, the lamp post and, oh yes, the grass remains. (RL)

Jacki walks through a street market as she continues to look for familiar sights. Shepherd's Bush Market in W12, also seen in 'Hue and Cry' and 'Calculated Risk'.

Even before it's in full swing, it was tricky finding the exact spot. SJ

A Stallholder (Hilda Barry) looks after her wares as Jacki browses. Shepherd's Bush Market running alongside the Hammersmith & City Line in W12 with a Hammersmith bound train on the viaduct.

Just too late to capture the front of the train bound for Hammersmith. SJ

Whilst wandering through the city, Jacki makes her way up from the Thames. Alongside Southwark Bridge in SE1.

Peter found the location with a little more colour, and two blondes!

A police officer is avoided. Facing north along Southwark Bridge over the Thames.

Peter found that the Police Box has been replaced by stonework.

Jacki returns to the river's edge. Looking north on Bankside SE1 with Cannon Street station to the right.

A brighter day when Peter visited.

The camera pans to bring Southwark Bridge into view along with the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral.

A last look at the river before Jacki's memory of events returns and she realises where Julian may be.

After getting off a bus, Jacki descends into the Underground. The entrance to Notting Hill Gate station on the north side of Notting Hill Gate W11. The location appears in several other films including 'West 11', 'Secret Rites', 'Girl with Green Eyes', 'Castaway', 'Duffer', 'Alfie' and 'Lunch Hour'.

Peter found the location full of helpful modern clutter.

Jacki arrives at the Woodlands Hotel where she finds her brother.
