The two arrive at the railway station. Taplow station. Ken Brunt updates us at the end of April 2020 that the footbridge at the station has now been demolished. However . . . .

Travelling as Frances Conway, the reluctant agent passes through the airport to catch her flight to the Balkans. Dave W spots the likeness to a capture in 'The Lavender Hill Mob' and places this as Northolt Airport. Also seen in 'Tiger by the Tail', 'The Six Men', 'Five Days' and 'The Teckman Mystery'. (RL)

A stock shot of an obviously 'foreign' train to establish the eastern European destination. Manuel Gurtner enlarges on the scene "Indeed, because this exceptional establishing shot illustrates Frances' journey to Zovgorod. Taken from the road through the landscape east of Trieste an Italian State Railway passenger train with an Austrian built Consolidation type of FS-Class 728 locomotive bound for Sant'Elia on the so called Ferrovia della Val Rosandra can be recognised. At that time, the Italian stretch of the cross-border branch line from Trieste (Campo Marzio station) to Hrpelje in Yugoslavia was under the administration of the Azienda Autonoma delle Ferrovie of the Territorio Libero di Trieste. The unprofitable secondary line was closed already in 1958 and the tracks were dismantled in 1966."

A car takes Frances from the station. Tram lines lie in the road to the right and Manuel tells us that here, Trieste, the city and seaport in northeastern Italy, stands in for Zovgorod. Looking from the edge of the Piazza della Libertà towards Trieste Centrale station with it's styled Neo-Renaissance structure. Inaugurated in 1906 the railway terminus also appears in 'Sleeping Car to Trieste' from 1948 and 'Diplomatic Courier'."

The first of a few stock scenes depicting Zovgorod in the Balkans. Manuel fills us in on a few details . . . "Between 1947 and 1954 Trieste was an independent city state under the protection of the UN as the Free Territory of Trieste. This establishing shot from the stairways above the road tunnel entrance shows the Via Silvio Pellico in direction of Piazza Goldoni, where the Stanga type streetcars of the Azienda Comunale Elettricità Gas Acqua e Tramvie can be recognized. The last urban tram line was shut down in March 1970."

Another stock shot of Trieste, still playing the part of Zovgorod. Identified by Manuel, this is looking from the steps in front of the Catholic parish church San Antonio Traumaturgo across Piazza Sant'Antonio Nuovo towards the Serbian-Orthodox church San Spiridione, located near the Canal Grande.

Frances teams up with reporter Bill Casey and the pair head off to find the target laboratory. Manuel advises that their 1933 Buick drives over the Strada Provinciale 11 towards San Giuseppe della Chiusa, while the village Sant'Antonio In Bosco is visible in the right distance.

British Consul Mr. Luke (Wilfrid Hyde-White) and Commandant Anton Razinski (Marius Goring) talk at the station as Frances and Casey depart. A studio set included just to show the more famous stars of the feature which, in Manuel Gurtner's opinion appears very similar to the "Kurtbaden station" set used in 'Night Train To Munich' made in 1940.
