If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

Clark Sutton (John Bentley) and his friend Louise Parker (Jean Kent) drive to an airport where he is about to test fly a plane. Carol Jepson remembers this as the A4 near Slough on its was from Heathrow to Bristol. John Armitage corrects that identification telling us that it is the Caterham bypass A22 looking North East from the Tillingdown Hill bridge. John has provided a 1950's postcard that matches the scene almost exactly.

And Keith Prested provides a comparative shot that similarly matches the scene, finding that the bridge has perhaps been modernised since filming and as a result had to contort rather to capture the shot.

On arrival they drive to a building and park up. Louise goes to the control tower to see "John” (Jack Lambert) her brother, while her boyfriend Paul Smith (Mark Stevens) is in the air testing a plane. Croydon Airport. Kenneth Courtness points out that as the Jaguar turns left to park by the building, the registration plate reads backwards, despite the fact that Clark is "wall side" when they park.

Croydon Airport has been completely re-developed and it is now impossible to replicate this capture. However, the original hotel remains, albeit enlarged, and can be photographed "passenger side".

Paul, Louise and Clark meet up and the men decide to go for a drink at the “Fox and Hounds”. Clark is the first to arrive. Market Place Kingston-upon-Thames

Pedestrianised and not easy now to get a clear view.

Paul and Louise pull up outside. Market Place, Kingston-Upon-Thames. The Market Place also features in 'The Dock Brief', 'Marriage of Convenience' and 'Operation Diplomat'.

Another pub gone.

Market Place, Kingston-Upon-Thames Circa 1952

Paul shouts out after her that he will marry her “even if he has to carry her to the alter”. Market Place, Kingston-Upon-Thames. Totally messed up the "now" shot, should have been further back, SINGER were at No.30 if you are down that way.

Market Place, Kingston-Upon-Thames

Adam has come to my rescue and provided the "now", spot on!

Paul has a fight with Kenneth Peters (John Harvey) but they all go off for a night on town, Peters returns to his home in the early hours where someone is waiting for him and kills him. Members of the Britmovie Forum advise that this is Queen's Gardens in SW7.

Indeed it is and the street lights are in the same place and remain in character. (RL)

Paul leaves his hotel where he stayed overnight and sets off to visit Louise. Exiting Alexander Place into Thurloe Place, London SW7

Still a very smart place to be.

Upon entering Thurloe Square he sees a police car, that soon drives away, outside John Parker’s house.

More difficult to park these days. Bridget Carrington highlights the fact that it is the main entrance to the Victoria & Albert Museum in the background to the left.

Enters No 14, Thurloe Square.

Very much the same.

Louise doesn’t believe that Paul is a killer and wants to help him. They set off to talk to the waiter who served the reunion drinks, which he believes were “spiked”, and they visit the “Golden Lion” but learn that a Mr Wrigley had helped the barman early in the evening. No 51 Dean Street, London W1

One can still see where those original fittings were.

They decide to “split up” and each visit different reunion members. Paul goes to see Tom Wrigley (Bryan Coleman), Kenneth Peters partner. Holborn Viaduct, London EC1

Colourfully maintained.

Meanwhile Louise goes to visit Clark where she receives a telephone call from Paul asking them to meet him at “Bristow (Duncan Lamont) and Brown (John Horsley)…urgently”.

Paul arrives at “Bristow and Brown’s” by cab. 256 to 264 Goldhawk Road, London W12 once the Seven Stars Garage and at the time of filming owned by B & E Edbro Tippers Ltd.

And now the Co-Op

Just as Bristow and Brown threaten to turn Paul over to the police Louise and Clark arrive. The junction of Goldhawk Road and Greenside Road in W12 identified by members of the Britmovie Forum.

No longer traffic lights at the junction.

Another view from Bristow and Brown’s petrol station just as the "cops” arrive. Goldhawk Road looking towards the mouth of Askew Road.

The background remains very much the same.

Clark and Paul escape in Louise’s waiting car. Britmovie members locate this as Greenside Road at the junction with Leysfield Road W12. The Polish Church, to the right, was rebuilt in 1961.

No room to squeeze another vehicle in.

They decide to split up, Paul leaves the car with a view to returning to Wrigley’s office. Excellent work from Christopher Matheson who has found the location. Brompton Road, London SW3 looking towards the junction with Egerton Gardens, looking north. (RL)

Replacing Christopher's Google from Oct 2017 to show a rather forlorn phone box. SJ

Paul learns of the involvement of their “old medical officer” Dr Derek Morrison (Leslie Perrins), who he goes to visit at the “College of Science”. Imperial College Road, London, SW7. Also seen in Against the Wind.

Just managed to find a spot between all those bikes.

Paul goes to call on the waiter from the “Golden Lion” who served the drink that fateful evening only to find him dead. Hazlitt Road, London W14

With thanks to Robin Martin for bringing this film to my attention and the appearance of Hazlitt Road.

Although this is part of the film's car chase, Robin advises that this segment was actually filmed at the junction of Hazlitt Road and Maclise Road. "One piece of trivia" he adds, is that one of the residents of the corner house in Maclise Road where the film camera was located, was a local Pavement Artist who used to be seen around with a shoulder sack of coloured chalks for sketching large tableaux in the Hammersmith area. The sequence is reused in 'Recoil' from the following year and also seen in 'Murder on Approval/Barbados Quest'.

A daytime shot from the same corner at ground level. SJ

  • 'Now' required

Det. Sgt. Roper (Cyril Smith) keeps watch at the club where the reunion ended. Unknown location.

Louise and Paul contrive to give the police “the slip” and meet up at where the sports car that dropped Paul off at the hotel is “hidden”. Mansion Mews, Queen's Gate SW7 identified by Britmovie members.

A closer view of the gate. While looking for this location, Peter was joined by a gent named John who advised that he was taking photos of all the blue plaques in London.

Whilst there they are interrupted by Tom Wrigley (Bryan Coleman) who is shot by an unknown person who makes off. Shouldham Street from the junction with Bryanston Place, London W1 Also seen in 'Murder on Approval'.

In daylight.

Louise and Paul quickly give chase. Shouldham Street from the junction with Harrowby Street, London W1. Also seen in 'Murder on Approval'.

A little less activity.

They follow the car to the apartment block where Mrs Dianne Wrigley (Dianne Foster) lives, as Paul visits her the police arrive at the front entrance. Sherwood Court, Shouldham Street looking towards Harrowby Street and Brown Street, London W1. Another entrance seen in “They can’t Hang Me” recognized by Jules Ballantyne.

The art deco doors have been replaced.

Chertsey Road (A316) Beyond the rise is the 'Winning Post' pub Circa 1962

Clark is established as the killer and he tries to escape with Louise, the police watch roads out of London for his car. Given the location of lostho027 this compares favourably with Chertsey Road (A316) a few hundred metres towards London. Beyond the rise is the 'Winning Post' pub seen in Capture 27 Tim adds. Also seen in 'Murder on Approval'.

Chertsey Road (A316) Beyond the rise is the 'Winning Post' pub

Tim Wingham drew himself as tall as he could to match the screen capture, noting that the road width has altered considerably since the film was made, and that the police car appears to have been at the now closed off junction with Godfrey Ave, Whitton, Middlesex.

They spot him and give chase but he loses them. Chertsey Road, Twickenham TW2 6LS. The building on the right is now "The Winning Post". Kenneth Courtness also points out that in this sequence, the Jaguar has just overtaken the same three wheeler for the second time. The first time there appears to be someone in the back seat of the Jaguar waving at the following (police) car (the director?). The second time is the same sequence (same lorries on the other side of the road) but cut to omit the "back seat direction".

Antony Blair captured this deserted scene across the road from The Winning Post public house.

One of the 'Two Bridges' on the Hatton Road, Feltham Circa 1952

Insp. Foster and Paul believe he could be making his getaway by plane at “Churchville Airport”. Sean McArdle is 99% certain that this was one of 'The Two Bridges' on the Hatton Road, Feltham that he remembers from when he was a kid and rode his tricycle to buy fresh potatoes. Well Sean, the OS Map of the time provides the other 1% confirming that this is the bridge over the Duke of Northumberland's River with both the posts and separate pedestrian bridge to the left hand side. (RL)

The 'Two Bridges' on the Hatton Road, Feltham

The two bridges can still be made out by the raised kerbs seen in this Google Earth View but a very different scene. (RL)

  • 'Now' required

Another police car soon picks them up. The other side of the same bridge. No, not the other side of the same bridge but the almost immediate second bridge, this one over the Longford River. Adding further certainty to Sean's identification is the appearance of the successor telephone cabinet just a few frames on, just before New Road, that he used to climb up and sit on with his brother. (RL)

Steam Farm Lane, Feltham, TW14 0PW Circa 1952

The chase continues. The same location appears in 'Black Orchid' and Trevor Farr unravels this long outstanding mystery to tell us that the building is now known as 'The Mission Hall' on Steam Farm Lane, Feltham TW14 0PW.

Jim Langridge replaces an earlier Google shot with this view of the location which is opposite Hatton Cross Underground station.

Entering “Churchville Airport” where Clark is captured and Paul and Louise start their lives together. At the time of filming this was Croydon Airport on Purley Way, Croydon. Other parts of the airport feature in 'Top Secret', 'Climbing High' and 'Wings of Danger'.

It is not that possible to stand that far back with the re-development of the airport but the houses are still there.
