Finding that his half brother Jud has taken his bike, Billy Casper (David Bradley) runs to the newsagent to start his paper round. Steve McNicholas identifies this as Harold Avenue, Lundwood in Barnsley, Yorkshire.

The fourteen year old continues through busier streets. Sarah Anne Street in Barnsley which leads onto rough ground that ran down towards the Keel Inn public house on Canal Street. Information from Darryl Jagger.
Not a 'now' shot but Darryl may have found the kids from the next screen capture! He was born in John Edward Street, in the the end house on the right hand side of the shot as Billy turns the corner.

As youngsters play in the street, Billy rounds a corner. Facing north towards the corner of Sarah Anne Street and John Edward Street in Honeywell, Barnsley identified by Darryl Jagger.

Billy darts through an alley to reach the newsagent. Daryl Jagger tells us that this alley ran between houses on John Edward Street in Barnsley and led down to the Keel Inn public house on Canal Street before reaching the paper mill. Steve Rowe adds that the old Star paper mill was now where Asda stands. All was swept away in the mid 1970s to be replaced by new housing.

Mr Porter (Harry Markham) asks how long the round will take without the bike. Steve McNicholas advises that this newsagent stood at the corner of Princess Street and Beaconsfield Street near Barnsley Town Centre and has since been converted into a house.

At Monastery Farm, Billy watches a kestrel flying from it's nest hidden in a ruin. IMDBb advises that this is Old Hall Farm, Tankersley, now in South Yorkshire.

Taking this view Matt Wilkinson explains that quite a lot of the ruin has crumbled away and a lot of foliage has overgrown it, but there are still parts that are recognisable.
