Ashburton Market

The Market was on the south side of Vealenia Terrace at the south east end of St Lawrence Lane and Woodland Road.

Following closure of the market the space was not surprisingly used as a car park.

Google Earth View circa 2011 from a similar camera position as the film capture.
An additional Google Earth View circa 2011 to show the cottages should development be disrespectful.

As the up to date comparative shot shows, flats have now been built on the site.

Peter Webb has kindly provided us with additional photographs of the Market taken both before and after the date of filming.

A circa 1910 view (from the East) just after the Market opened. Believed to have been taken by local photographer Amy Satterley.
Peter has previously been given permission from Amy’s family to use her photos in a couple of books on Ashburton that he has written and for an article he wrote about her in the Dartmoor Magazine of Spring 1998.
Taken circa 1976 by Peter before it was demolished.
