Just before his retirement, an accountant is fired from his position to be replaced by an adding machine.

Mr. Zero makes his way home to the tenement block where he lives with his nagging Wife.

Following each of their executions, Zero and Shrdlu meet in the afterlife where, having taken her own life, Daisy runs across a beach to join them. The beach is described as being at St. Ives in Cornwall on the AFI Catalogue website.
