This is how he met the handsome Laura, who with Eric’s daughter, get closer to the killer than the detective himself during his investigation.

- Capture 1
- 08 Aug 2020

The opening of the film is shot as through the eyes of the murderer diving through the canals of Amsterdam. Viewed here from the Open Havenfront can be seen the Victoria hotel (opened on August 19,1890) on the corner of Damrak and Prins Hendrikkade close to Central Station.

The view that most tourist have when they visit Amsterdam for the first time. This is as close to the original as it can be without entering the water.
- Capture 2
- 08 Aug 2020

A prostitute is leaving her whorehouse. Groenburgwal 69. Funny detail is that during the making of this film it was impossible to shoot in the red light district, so here, Groenburgwal (which is not in the red light district) had been transformed into the red light district for a couple of days during the shooting of this film.

In contrast to how it looks in the movie this classic old canal house is nowadays a much beloved object that has been sold recently for only 3.000.000 euros.
- Capture 3
- 08 Aug 2020

The prostitute takes a taxi to go home. Same location as in capture 2 but from a different angle.

No more yellow neon light but full of green from plants and trees.
- Capture 4
- 08 Aug 2020

The prostitute has an argument with the taxi driver and she is thrown out of the taxi. A homeless woman asks the girl if everything is alright. In the background we see the Sloterdijkerbrug at the intersection of Galgenstraat and Prinseneiland.

This area has been recently upgraded because the old situation was miserable. Up to the second world war practically nobody lived on the Prinseneiland. There were mostly warehouses and storage facilities. Nowadays it all has been transformed into apartments.
- Capture 5
- 08 Aug 2020

The murderer jumps out of the water and kills the girl, his first victim. The homeless woman watches the brutal murder and the murderer hangs her upside down at the intersection of Keizersgracht and Reguliersgracht.

Obviously not much has changed. The only thing is that there are not that many hanging bodies these days.
- Capture 6
- 08 Aug 2020

Police detective Eric Visser (Huub Stapel) takes his daughter Anneke (Tatum Dagelet) to school in his fabulous 1960’s Alpha Romeo Giulietta Sprint. Mark Vianen is the happy owner of this car nowadays. Roelof Hartplein looking in the direction of Roelof Hartstraat.

It is not always sunny in Amsterdam as you can see but the usual yellow road signs are, of course, there.
- Capture 7
- 08 Aug 2020

The Alpha Romeo arrives at Anneke’s school at the Roelof Hartstraat 1. Constructed in 1894 in the same neo renaissance style as the Rijksmuseum this is no longer a school.

If we wait another 10 years this tree in the garden will fall down!
- Capture 8
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric drives to the crime scene of the murdered prostitute and meanwhile it gives us a sightseeing tour of Amsterdam. Obvious in these days there was no rush for the men in blue to go to a murder scene. Here we see the entrance of the Rijksmuseum as seen from the Weteringschans.

And guess what… Road signs all over the place.
- Capture 9
- 08 Aug 2020

Nice to see the Dam square as well. This square can also be seen in the movie 'Puppet on a Chain'.

De Bijenkorf warehouse on the left and the national monument in the middle. On the right can be seen the luxurious Krasnapolsky hotel, and all that on a sunny day in Amsterdam.
- Capture 10
- 08 Aug 2020

Now this is strange. It was supposed to be in Amsterdam but it is not! This is at the location Vismarkt 21 in Utrecht. Shortly before this shot Eric passes a terrace where you can see Simon Carmigelt; A famous Dutch writer..

Not the best angle but it will do for the time. How Dutch can it be? The national flag, wooden shoes. Only the tulips and cheese are missing.
- Capture 11
- 08 Aug 2020

As if it is a miracle, Eric, having arrested a robber in Utrecht, is at the crime scene back in Amsterdam together with Vermeer (Serge-Henri Falcke) his clumsy chief. The intersection Keizersgracht and Reguliersgracht as we can also see in Capture 5.

Not much has changed here.
- Capture 12
- 08 Aug 2020

Same location as Capture 11 but from a different angle.

Not many faces in this picture. We have a much clearer view of the entire environment now.
- Capture 13
- 08 Aug 2020

The place where victims two and three will be killed. The location is on the river Ij and we are looking to Amsterdam north at the chemical factory Albemarle (Nieuwerdammerkade 1-3). This shot has been taken from KNSM Eiland at the other side of river Ij.

Frank didn’t know the exact angle from where the original shot had been made but he found out that this must have been the Albemarle factory. Here we see that factory but he has no idea whether the factory has changed or that the angle is completely wrong.
- Capture 14
- 08 Aug 2020

The bodies of victims two and three are found and Eric meets an old youth friend John (Wim Zomer) who is a diver and who will assist him to solve this case. Location: Amsterdam north Nieuwendammerdijk 542, Scheepswerf Verschure & Co.

Frank could not get on the shipyard to take the photo so this is as close as it can be. On the left on the background can be seen the Schellingwoudebrug in Amsterdam East.
- Capture 15
- 09 Mar 2021

Eric and John take a lunch together to discuss this triple murder case. This is inside the location NH Carlton hotel at Vijzelstraat 4. Nice detail to mention; in the background can be seen the shop Aurora on Vijzelstraat 27-35. This is one of the oldest shops in the Vijzelstaat (since 1909!!!) and they sell lighting, electra, and small household appliances.

It took Frank a while to make this shot because the road was under construction and there was nothing to see. Obvious the activities has come to an end.
- Capture 16
- 08 Aug 2020

Because the murders have to do with diving Eric goes to visit one of the biggest diving clubs of Amsterdam. This club is called: Zeewolf. Actually this place does have a diving club but is called: Water Sport Center de Duikelaar and is located at Noordzijde 41 in Amsterdam west.

This is the entrance to the small harbour and diving club today. The trees have grown so much that the rooftops can no longer be seen.
- Capture 17
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric at the diving club Zeewolf in Amsterdam where he meets his new flame: Laura (Monique van de Ven). He instantly falls for her and tries to get a date no matter what.

Because the harbour was closed Frank could not enter this facility and as he is not a burglar he decided to take the shot in the same direction but from further back. Still very much recognisable though.
- Capture 18
- 08 Aug 2020

A lady from the Salvation Army after a night of collecting. She is not really a ‘true believer’ because she takes some money out of the collection box for herself. Soon after she is shocked when two police officers talk to her. “Praise the Lord, halleluiah“ she replies and she takes her bike and leaves the scene. Location: Sint Jacobsdwarsstraat 4

The sex shop has gone but now the people have a temporary portable public toilet in front of their house. Frank wonders what is the best or the worst. A few more bicycle's to chose from too.
- Capture 19
- 08 Aug 2020

A scream and a splash from the lady of the Salvation Army shortly after the encounter with the two officers. They run in the direction of the scream and find only the bike of the lady, next to the canal. Almost the exact same spot as Capture 18 but in the opposite direction of the Sint Jacobsdwarsstraat.

All quiet now. No running police officers any more.
- Capture 20
- 08 Aug 2020

The following day the cleaners of the canals discover the lifeless body of the Salvation Army lady in the canal at Grimburgwal in the direction of Binnengasthuis. This location can also be seen in the film 'Puppet on a Chain' but then from the opposite direction.

The people who clean the canals still have a lot of work to do over here. The building on the back is called the Academic Club of Amsterdam.
- Capture 21
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric is dating Laura and they go for a romantic dinner in this traditional Dutch windmill. Location: Spuikade 1 in Geervliet and the name of the windmill is Bernisse molen.

Frank found that the windmill is still a restaurant. Albeit a windy day, the sails no longer turn, just as well with that scaffolding.
- Capture 22
- 08 Aug 2020

The boyfriend of Eric’s daughter tells her that he has psychic abilities and will be able to pinpoint the location where the killer will be. With a pencil above a map of Amsterdam he pinpoints the location Montebaanstoren at the intersection of the Oude Waal and Oudeschans. He was actually quit right. We see the murderer rise out of the water while they are leaving. Very close to Laura's house.

Finally we see the Montebaanstoren at day time in it’s full glory. If Frank does get unemployed because of this Covid-19 pandemic there will always be an opportunity for him to make tourist postcards and this one could be the first.
- Capture 23
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric and Laura arrive at Laura's house and yes, this is only a bridge further than the location seen in Capture 22. This location is situated at Kalkmarkt 13.

When Frank took this photo the owner came out and asked him to stop taking photos. When Frank explained the reason why, it all changed instantly. Yes the owner knew his house was used in the movie 'Amsterdamned'. Frank complemented the owner for making it such a beautiful green place in this city. He is such a charmer! A 'dank u' to the owner from Reelstreets as well.
- Capture 24
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric arrives at the police station. This is actually a building of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and it was located at Roeterseilandcampus in Amsterdam east. It has been demolished and replaced by modern buildings and still owned by the University.

Nothing to recognise anymore.
- Capture 25
- 08 Aug 2020

The next potential victim is seen floating in a small boat in the Brouwersgracht. She gets murdered in a horrible way. The shot has been taken from Bridge 56 at the Binnen Brouwersstraat.

Still a lot of boats on the Brouwersgracht. Small and big.
- Capture 26
- 08 Aug 2020

The police gets a tip that the murderer is hiding himself in a cheap hotel in the red light district. Every officer in town heads to this place. The Zeedijk, that was a no go area in 80’s, and we can clearly see why. This is not staged, this is how it really looked like in these days.

As can be seen the place has been cleaned up and is safe to walk through these days. A good example of how inner city renovation actually did work for the good.
- Capture 27
- 08 Aug 2020

The hotel at the intersection of Zeedijk and Sint Olofsteeg.

What is that van doing there spoiling this photo!!?? At least it is not a big white van Frank!
- Capture 28
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric and Vermeer are approaching the hotel incognito and enter the building when hell breaks loose. The suspect escapes and jumps on a motorcycle and takes off. The building is also seen in 'Operation Amsterdam', Capture 31, but from slightly different angle.

No more junkies hanging around. All quiet in 2020.
- Capture 29
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric is brave enough to jump out of the window to chase the suspect. The exact address is Sint Olofsteeg 2, first floor.

No persons jumping out of the window these days. Maybe if you had waited Frank...
- Capture 30
- 08 Aug 2020

He sees the suspect escaping on a motorcycle from the Ouderzijds Voorburgwal over the Armbrug. A bridge that also can be seen in 'Modesty Blaise' Capture 17 and 'Operation Amsterdam' Capture 32.

Looking back at old photos and the screen capture one realises that this place has been seriously cleaned up. Big up for Amsterdam itself.
- Capture 31
- 08 Aug 2020

The chase is on and the suspect drives at high speed through the Slijkstraat and if he goes on like that he will live fast and die young.

Nowadays everything does go a little slower. People even have time to grow and cultivate roses in this abandoned street.
- Capture 32
- 24 Jan 2021

The man in black on the motorbike is still on the run and not yet caught. Unknown location, can anyone help Frank, he's distraught. "A friend in need is a friend indeed", Frank's good friend Albert Drenth came to his rescue and identified the Spinhuissteeg, so close to the previous and next location.

How could Frank have missed this one? At least he made up for it with a shot whilst out in a sooooo quiet Amsterdam. We from Reelstreets say: Dank je wel Albert!!!.
- Capture 33
- 08 Aug 2020

He now enters the Spinhuissteeg and is at house number 2 when this shot was taken. Even the police on horses participate in the chase now.

No motorcycles, no horses… Just peace and quit. Frank loves his city
- Capture 34
- 08 Aug 2020

It looks like the suspect is trapped but he escapes and enters the Dwars Spinhuissteeg.

Frank thinks that the building in the back has been improved by making a lot of new windows in it. Certainly looks much smarter.
- Capture 35
- 08 Aug 2020

He escapes through the narrow streets of old Amsterdam and is on a wider street now. This is at the crossing of Herengracht and Bergstraat.

When Frank took this photo the owner of the house on the left was so kind to remove his car for Reelstreets.com. We from Reelstreets.com would like thank this man for the fact that it improves the quality of our nowadays photos. "dank u!"
- Capture 36
- 08 Aug 2020

The chase is so fast that cars have a tendency to fly at the intersection of Herengracht and Blauwburgwal.

Imagine the damage to the police car if they still had the tendency to fly off the bridges.
- Capture 37
- 08 Aug 2020

The suspect is at an advantage at the Melkmeisjesbrug because this small bridge is strictly for bikes and pedestrians. Intersection Herengracht and Brouwersgracht.

Frank wonders if the poles that allows the suspect to escape are still the same as in the 80’s. Not much changed over here.
- Capture 38
- 08 Aug 2020

Bad luck for the suspect. The Mariniersbrug at Kattenburgerstraat is about to open.

In the year 2020 Frank found out that the bridge was mostly closed and he did not want to wait a day to take the perfect shot. We forgive him, but he can always go back!
- Capture 39
- 08 Aug 2020

The suspect is driving through the Kattenburgerstraat unaware that the bridge is open. He is trapped like a mouse and he has difficulties with reading Dutch, obviously!

So much changed here. We wonder what kind of concentrates the city of Amsterdam gave to the trees.
- Capture 40
- 08 Aug 2020

Most policemen seem to think that they did catch the killer but Eric is not so sure about it. That same night the next killing happens on a boat and the killer even sinks the boat as seen by this bystander at the Hoge Sluis at the Sarphatistraat.

Not visible because of the rain in the film but in the background we see in daylight the exclusive Amstel hotel. Almost every celebrity did sleep in this hotel. Frank never did by the way.
- Capture 41
- 08 Aug 2020

The day after John is exploring the sunken boat and dives into it. Strangely the murderer is also inside the boat and kills John and escapes. By following the bubbles they chase the real murderer. Hoge sluis in the background viewed from the Sarphatikade.

No bubbles to be seen in the Amstel river.
- Capture 42
- 08 Aug 2020

While Eric is driving in his patrol car on Sarphatistraat he hears on the police radio that the murderer is spotted. With high speed he drives to help chasing the murderer. On the background can be seen an historical landmark: Muiderpoort. The Muiderpoort can also be seen in the movie 'Operation Amsterdam', Capture 29.

The infra structure has been changed much over the years and obviously there is a completely new tram track that was build recently.
- Capture 43
- 08 Aug 2020

The murderer escapes but then a possible breakthrough by an anonymous tip off that the wounded murderer is hiding at a yacht club. Eric and Vermeer rush to Jachthaven de Koenen, Koenenkade 24 Amsterdam. The Murderer jumps in a speedboat and takes off. Eric starts the chase again by boat.

Frank could not find this location but with the help of some locals he finally did. When he arrived at the location he found that the fence was closed. He saw the young girl pushing the wheelbarrow and asked her if he could take some photos. After he explained to her that the place was crucial to the film she was more than happy to open the fence for him. We from Reelstreets.com thank her for that. "Dank u zeer".
- Capture 44
- 08 Aug 2020

Location Berlagebrug over the river Amstel. Viewed from the side of Amsteldijk it is obvious that the murderer doesn’t really care about other people in boats on the river. The speedboat chase that follows is directly inspired by the movie: 'Puppet on a Chain'.

When Frank took this photo he got in contact with the owner of the rowing club who actually was there when the film was made. He explained that there was a second boat just in case the first shot didn’t come out well. The first shot came out perfectly and as a result many people did used the ‘second’ boat for this rowing club.
- Capture 45
- 08 Aug 2020

The chase is on and they go with high speed through the Keizersgracht and Reguliersgracht. Same location can also be seen in 'Puppet on a Chain' Capture 51 but from a different angle. Seen here from the Utrechtsestraat, we are looking at the location where the first victim was found hanging upside down on this bridge.

And again a sunny day in Amsterdam.
- Capture 46
- 08 Aug 2020

This location is Oudezijds Achterburgwal viewed from the Bet van Beerenbrug. The bridge can be seen in 'Operation Amsterdam' in Capture 34 and in 'Puppet on a Chain', Capture 27.

Did anything change here in the past 40 years??
- Capture 47
- 08 Aug 2020

They are back at the location Reguliersgracht this time on the intersection with Lijnbaansgracht.

Now this is a moment frozen in time. The photo is of course from the year 2020 but we see an old Volvo that could have been there in the eighties. Some boats did sink however over the years.
- Capture 48
- 08 Aug 2020

On the Reguliersgracht we see that a police car is helping Eric in the pursuit, seen from the intersection with the Kerkstraat.

Trees do grow over the years.
- Capture 49
- 08 Aug 2020

Because there are no locations in Amsterdam that are at water level the film makers had to move out to Utrecht for this. Oudegracht/Stadhuisbrug in Utrecht.

Frank had never visited this place before but he understands that it must have been a crucial camera shot for the movie if you want to see the canals from a lower position.
- Capture 50
- 08 Aug 2020

Also in Utrecht the location Oudegracht and Viebrug.

Reconstruction on the shores obviously.
- Capture 51
- 08 Aug 2020

The killer takes a drastic measure and launches himself over the Intersection Keizersgracht and Leidsegracht in Amsterdam.

Much more quiet these days. No more flying speedboats in the year 2020.
- Capture 52
- 08 Aug 2020

The killer looks back to see if he still gets followed and does not pay attention to what is in front of him and crashes into a big boat at the same location as Capture 1 of this movie; Open Havenfront next to the central station. Eric is not convinced the murderer is dead, and he is right.

Explosions have been replaced by bridges over the years. A very, very wise decision of the council of Amsterdam.
- Capture 53
- 08 Aug 2020

Laura is about to meet her psychiatrist and for some reason there seems to be a link between the psychiatrist and the murderer. Laura does not know about that. Villa Ruysdael, Alberdinck Thijmlaan 77, Heemstede.

One of the buildings is under construction here. A worker became very aggressive to Frank who took this photo and screamed at him that he didn’t want to photographed. No problem he said and then went on to explained to him why he was there. All of a sudden the whole attitude of this working man changed and he was so happy when he finally realised that he had seen this scene once in the movie. We from Reelstreets.com are more than happy to help people in situations like this.
- Capture 54
- 08 Aug 2020

Laura enters the psychiatrists resident in Heemstede.

The garden has improved during the past 40 years.
- Capture 55
- 08 Aug 2020

While Laura is in the psychiatrists house she discovers various items that are linked to the murderer. Is he the murderer? The psychiatrist Martin Ruysdael (Hidde Maas) comes home in his Porsche. Laura is scared. Martin enters his home and there is a fight and Laura knocks Martin down. But all of a sudden the real killer drags her into the water but Eric pops up and shoots at the murderer. The murderer is seriously wounded and jumps in the water. The psychiatrist awakes and explains that the murderer is an old friend of his and he has been exposed to uraniumhexafluorid and that changed the murderer for good. The murderer returns to his home.

Frank was waiting for a Porsche 911 to show up but it did not happen.
- Capture 56
- 08 Aug 2020

Eric and Vermeer rush to the murderer’s home but they find out it is too late; He has killed himself at the location Weteringstraat 33. It is all over now. The murder is dead and Eric and Laura have a nice time in the epilogue.

When Frank took this photo the (American) owner came out of the house and he warned the man that was the house where the murderer used to live, explaining that it was from the movie ‘Amsterdamned’. The owner had no clue that his house had been used in the movie and promised Frank that he would see the movie as soon as possible.
