Storyline:

An old match-seller is killed by swindlers but a verdict of suicide is returned. A Chicago gangster, illigally in London, takes a hand and with the help of the hotel clerk exposes the murderer and disappears in time to avoid arrest and extradition, leaving the clerk to collect a reward.

A Quota Quickie produced at Welwyn Studios, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, with no outside locations. Steve Chibnall in his book of similar title writes; ‘Anyone unfortunate enough to have seen Radio’s hurriedly edited and inappropriately titled The Avenging Hand would have to agree with Kinematograph Weekly’s assessment that it is ‘tedious rigmarole, flitting between the serious and comic to no apparent purpose’, and that its appeal is ‘to say the least, obscure’.

Indeed, the films Editor, Sidney Cole is reported to have said ‘…..I still have a notice somewhere which says, ‘The storyline of this picture presumably was rather obscure to begin with, but the editor has made it totally incomprehensible’.
