Blind Goddess, The

In Prague, Count Stephan Mikla returns to his hotel room where he is shot by a Man dressed as a member of staff. Manuel Gurtner's keen eyes looked through the darkness, downstream across the Vltava river towards the medieval Charles Bridge. The outline of the Malá Strana Bridge Tower can be recognised on the left while above Prague Castle the spires of St. Vitus Cathedral are visible.

Big Ben chimes in London as the story moves to the Savoy Hotel where Derek Waterhouse and Mary Dearing are dancing. Looking across the Thames towards the Houses of Parliament in SW1 with Westminster Bridge to the left.

Derek drives Mary home where he explains to her that his employer, Lord Arthur Brasted, had offered him an assignment in West Africa along with a present of £10,000 after firing him from his position as secretary because he had accused the peer of being a murderer and an embezzler. Although unclear, this is definitely an individual location not seen elsewhere in the production.

Driving to Lord Brasted's house, Derek questions his employer as to whether he thought he could be bought for £10,000 before learning from Lady Helen Brasted that Count Mikla had committed suicide.

With suspicions about the Count's death, Derek travels to Prague to question prominent bankers. Seen from the Národní museum (National Museum), this is looking out onto Václavské námestí (Wenceslas Square) in the Nové Mesto (New Town) district of Prague, Czechoslovakia.

Returning to London, Derek arrives at Mary's house to ask for advice from her father Sir John Dearing but discovers that the KC has been engaged to act for Lord Brasted. Jules Ballantyne recognises 28 Eaton Square, London SW1. (RL)

In Ceylon, Mary receives a letter from Derek telling her that they should stop communicating until it is proven that he's not a blackmailer.

With the case turning against Derek when a letter is produced, Mary returns from Ceylon. Manuel Gurtner explains that this is one of the twenty Avro 691 Lancastrian C1 aircraft delivered in 1945 to the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) that carries registration G-AGMM and the name "Nepal". They were used by the BOAC, in conjunction with Australia's QUANTAS, for the "Kangaroo Service" between London and Sidney, via Karachi (Pakistan) and Colombo (Ceylon).

After the jury finds in favour of Lord Brasted, a cut to Strand begins a short pan towards the pavement. Looking north-east along Strand WC2.
