Blue Peter, The

Running alongside the River Dovey in Wales, the train carrying Mike Merriworth to the Outward Bound school nears Aberdovey. Near Plâs Pont Eidal between Fron-gôch and Morfa-bâch Tunnels on the Cambrian Coast railway line.

The train pulls into Aberdovey station. Actually, this is Penhelig railway station, Penhelig in Merionethshire. The station is on the line between Machynlleth and Pwllheli.

Jonathan G acknowledges that he took this the wrong way. In mitigation he adds, "the screen shot is taken from the hillside at the far end of the platform looking towards Aberdovey which is behind me." (RL)

Following a welcome by Captain Snow and his Wife, Mike heads to his quarters as Number One (Edwin Richfield) appears from one of the huts.

The new intake arrive and the members of Mike's 'Nelson Watch' are called out.

After a stressful first day, Number One approaches Mike. The ramp leads down from a former school on Terrace Road, Aberdovey in Merionethshire, since 1974 part of Gwynedd.

The first morning of their day at the centre sees boys from all walks of life enjoying a dip in the river. The River Dovey off Aberdovey Jetty.

Number One tells Mike that there's a meeting at ten where the watch captains will be chosen. Glandovey Terrace forms the backdrop.

With Charlie Barton (Harry Fowler) as captain, Nelson Watch excels and Andrew Griffin (John Charlesworth) is chosen to climb a mast that the rest have put up.

No one to spoil Jonathan's shot of the bay.

Captain Snow (Mervyn Johns), Digger (Vincent Ball), Mrs. Snow (Mary Kerridge) and Dr. Tigara (Ram Gopal) all look on and comment as Nelson Watch go from strength to strength. Bodfor Terrace and more of Glandovey Terrace make up the background.

Hoping for a lift, Andrew, Tony Mullins (Brian Roper) and Tubby (Don McCorkindale) run after Karl as he drives by in his Jeep. Terrace Road as it runs between Aberdovey and Penhelig.

Two Squaddies leave the shadows after buying stolen cigarettes from Fred Starling. The steps alongside the Britannia Hotel lead up to Church Street from Sea View Terrace.

The boys of Nelson Watch enjoy a well earned cup of tea after hiking over the hills.

Gwyneth asks journalist Mrs. Griffin (Greta Gynt) how her son Andrew is getting along. Aberdovey Wharf with the railway sidings on the short branch from Aberdovey station running across the scene.

A repeat of Capture 15 The yellow building without dormer windows with the telegraph pole in front next to the blue property has filled the gap to the right of the lady in the red top above the white single storey building, now gone. I am sure there is a simpler way of explaining it. Quite clear Jonathan! (RL)

Hoping to get a story for her editor, Mrs. Griffin speaks with Mike. Aberdovey Wharf with properties on Glandovey Terrace in the background.

Mike is called back to the school after a stolen cigarette lighter is found in Fred Starling's belongings. Aberdovey Wharf with Sea View Terrace to the right.

It turns out that the screen capture is pretty much the view from Rob Hughes's house but he didn't know the film existed until he saw it on ReelStreets. The comparison is taken from the top of Church Street, Aberdyfi. It's not the exact angle but Rob couldn't get down the embankment any further as it's pretty overgrown today!

Nelson Watch returns to Aberdovey after rescuing a fishing boat and it's crew. To the right of centre stands Addoldy Yr Annibynwyr Adeiladwyd, the Welsh Independent Chapel.

We have heard some excuses but...Jonathan didn't have a boat and Canolfan Dyfi now would block the view of the chapel but..... taking the shot from the wrong angle? You are excused, it happens to us all, you have more than proved yourself with all the other shots. (RL)

Every student from the Outward Bound school take part in a thirty mile hike over Cadair Idris. Looking down from Creig Cwm-rhwyddfor onto the A487 running between Corris and Dolgellau in Merionethshire.
