Bulldog Breed, The

A large port, probably southern England, with big ships. Are we talking Southampton or maybe Portsmouth? But with steep hills?...This looks like Pompei harbour from the Gosport side looking north towards Fort Southwick on the hills. The actual location is now know as 'Explosion' an arsenal. Andrew Moreland confirms that this is Portland Harbour and provides the shot from Google Earth showing that the jetty remains and is still the same shape, including the indentation on the right side. (RL). Definitely Camber Jetty at HMNB Portland, not Priddys Hard, Gosport, adds Adrian Rooke. (SJ)

There is a possibility that it was filmed in more than one port (pier), because on picture bul001b are missing two small buildings, that appear on picture bul001a on the right. Andrew Moreland confirms that this is the same jetty as in 001a, looking towards the land and that the building in the capture have long gone. (RL). Adrian adds that at the rear was the Victualling depot, also seen in capture 3.

Oh, the tricks that these film-makers play!!! Perhabs this large port on bul001a is Poole looking to Isle of Purbeck, and the pictures bul001b (where the two small building are not seen), to bul001k were filmed probably in Portland harbour or Weymouth. As bul001d, Google/NR

I discovered that on picture bul002 (A hill above a town beside a seaside...): 1. Portland (is the town). This is looking down on Chesil Beach to the left and the villages of Chiswell and Fortuneswell. Similar views were seen in ‘The Damned’, 'Ring of Spies' and ‘Out of Season’.
