Zion National Park, Utah

More Zion as Newman and Redford join the Hole in the Wall gang.

And this is provided by Mike del Gaudio with the sleuth work of Eddie Henn.

The hideout.

Mike again in Zion Park. (SJ)

A fight for leadership but Newman plays dirty.

And this too is Zion National Park, found by Eddie Henn and snapped by Mike del Gaudio.

View from Ross' window as Newman and Ross cycle off to the Raindrops sequence.

Not quite from the right place, but certainly the right direction. SJ

Reverse POV thus pinpointing where Ross' cabin was built in relation to the schoolhouse.

Grafton Ghost Town, just outside Zion National Park, Utah. SJ

Ross watches Newman from the barn.

Still possible to get up there. SJ

Close-up of Ross in the barn and why not?

Cycling antics in Grafton.

Now. SJ

Returning to Ross' cabin, after circling around so straight on would be the barn.

Ross' cabin, and I think next door, was built for the film so I'm on a patch of ground. This one done from memory so a lucky strike. SJ

The second "enough dynamite there" train robbery. The super posse pursue the gang. Not particularly easy to find, probably on the 45 mile stretch of the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway, Colorado as was the first train robbery. Or it could be the Denver and Rio Grande line.

Nice sand dunes. Utah, New Mexico? ... Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah suggests Mike del Gaudio.

The jump into the Animas river but no, not such a great height. That's Redford and Newman, not stuntmen and apparently they jumped onto a platform. Cited as near Baker's Bridge, Animas River.

  • 'Now' required

Stuntmen completing the jump with added trickery, at the then Fox Movie Ranch which closed in 1974 and is now known as Malibu Creek Park, Calabasas, California, as well as being open to the public. Also filmed here were, among others, Tarzan Escapes and Planet of the Apes.

Newman tosses the bicycle away before New York and Bolivia.

The building has gone, but this track leads to the barn. SJ

Leaving for New York and South America.

Sorry about the cars. SJ

"Bolivia": probably Mexico which narrows it down a bit... After 12 years, Manuel Gurtner adds after lengthy research another exclusive for Reelstreets, "Indeed Mexico, because we see actually the steel narrow-gauge 1st-class coach N° 779 of Nacionales de México (NdeM). Shot at the ruins of the long-disused Isabel Jáuregui station, the former Santa Inés station, then still existing between Cuautlixco and Cuautla, Morelos state. The last remaining NdeM narrow-gauge lines from Mexico City (San Lázaro) to Cuautla, from Puebla to Cuautla and from Cuautla to Puente de Ixtla (between Cuernavaca and Taxco), which were originally built by the Ferrocarril Interocéanico (FCI) and nationalized after WW2, came all together at Cuautla terminus station."
