Storyline:

A ship’s captain is promoted by his company from tramp steamers to their flagship passenger liner on which he becomes the target for all the attractive unattached women on board.

Jimmy Snow worked on special effects at both Pinewood and Denham Studios but a name that often remained uncredited, as with this film. An interesting Biography and her Memories of him has been written for us by his granddaughter Brigitte, all of which can be read here.

Berthed at Tilbury Docks, South Star Line’s SS Queen Adelaide awaits her new captain. The liner is played by SS Orsova which also appeared in ‘Carry On Cruising’, and this is Tilbury in Essex located by Ian Rogers.

After appearing before Sir Angus at South Star Line's headquarters, Captain Albert Ebbs (John Gregson) approaches the top of the gangway as Arthur Holt (Harry Locke) walks along the deck of SS Queen Adelaide. Within the Main Dock at Tilbury, found by Ian.

Worrying that Ebbs will discover that they are smuggling the ship’s food and drink ashore for profit, Chief Purser Herbert Prittlewell (Richard Wattis) signals to the Driver of a waiting ambulance. Tilbury Docks confirmed by Ian Rogers.

The ambulance laden with sides of meat speeds away as it's load spills onto the quayside. Ian Rogers advises that this quay lies within the Main Dock at Tilbury and the view is looking towards the West Branch Dock.

While Captain Ebbs addresses his crew, a red Aston Martin brings Chief Officer Shawe-Wilson (Donald Sinden) to the ship. SS Orsova was built for the Orient Steam Navigation Company (Orient Line) for their Britain to Australia service. Tilbury Docks in Essex identified by Ian Rogers. Other parts of the dock complex can be seen in 'Grasshopper Island' and 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' while the Ferry Terminal on the River Thames appears in 'Mr. Holmes'.

The journey to Australia is broken by a stopover at Colombo in Ceylon. Entering service in 1954, SS Orsova was broken up in 1974 at Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

At the harbour in Colombo, locals carry contraband provisions from SS Queen Adelaide to an ambulance. This is likely to be a lot closer than Sri Lanka . . . chances are that it's Pinewood.

The passengers and crew of SS Queen Adelaide reach their destination. To the right, Sydney Harbour Bridge crosses Port Jackson in Sydney, New South Wales.

On the quay, Bernie Floate (Lionel Murton) and Holt look up as a crate of illicit cigarettes are unloaded from the ship.
