Tony Winzar found Maidenhead bus station on Bridge Avenue with a red Thames Valley bus just coming into view bottom left. The back projected shot seems to have been taken from the library roof.

Tony adds that the bus station was demolished in the 1970's and the shot appears to be taken from the 'Syntex' office building in St Ives Road which is next to Maidenhead Library, opposite Maidenhead Town Hall. This picture from the same era shows the bus station in full. Unknown copyright.

The pair of houses are those on the opposite side of the road to the bus station. The whole area is now fenced off & the buildings boarded up ready for, I guess, demolition. Tony Winzar.

For completeness, this is the building that stands on the bus station site. Taken with my back to the pair of houses. The building right at the far left (beyond the modern looking library) is the 'SYNTEX' office building from which I would think that the elevated shot of Jim Dale was taken. Tony Winzar.

  • 'Now' required

Another bit of cinematographic trickery. The view is from the top of the same building used for image cod007 but facing the opposite way onto St Ives Road. The building has since been replaced.

Even Brighton?...No, we've gone for Westbourne Street, opposite the Royal Lancaster Hotel which proves the above quite an advanced fake shot. SJ

And here's the proof. And the excellent Whippit Inn Carry On website has got this one too. SJ
