Storyline:

De Prooi tells the story of a soon-to-graduate high school student, Valerie Jaspers, and her mother, Trudy, who live a quiet, middle class life in a village outside of Amsterdam. When her mother becomes a victim of what seems to be a random hit-and-run, an autopsy reveals that it wasn’t an “accident”: Trudy was run over twice. The police investigation reveals that Trudy was never married and had no children: she’s not Valerie’s mother. So Val sets off to solve the mystery of not only who her real mother is, but who murdered the woman she thought was her mother.

Screen captures, text and uncredited comparison shots by Frank van den Berg, uploaded by Richard Lovejoy.

The shots of this film are not the best quality. The total budget of this thriller was only f300.00,- (about 130.000 euro) They had to use cheap film and cheap cameras.

The English name for this film is: Death in the Shadows

The car that kills Trudy Jaspers is a Mazda 929 Coupe.

De Prooi is the one and only film that Maaike appeared in.

A film of the same name was released in 2016.

If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

When Frank arrived on this location the owner of the house was working outside. It turned out that he is the son of the people who, in the mid-eighties, allowed the film crew to use their house for this film. He explained to Frank that this house was their second choice. A house further up the road was their first but the owner refused. During the visit of the film crew a couple of things were demolished in the house but the owners only got f1000,- (about 440 euros) as a compensation and that was just enough to buy some new curtains. The son told Frank that they rearranged their garden and the owners were not that happy about it. Nice fellow and Frank gave the son the reelstreets.com address so he could see the original and the now shots. We from 'Reelstreets' say: Dank u wel!.

While Frank was trying to take the photo a police officer came outside and asked him what he was doing. Frank explained and the man instantly knew about this film. He explained that the entrance nowadays is not the entrance from back in the 80’s. He guided Frank to this part of the building and he said that you still can see it because the bricks used are different. Look closely to the photo and you can see it yourself. Thank you officer. To protect and to serve.

The old garage was torn down recently and these new houses are constructed on the old location. There is even a painting in the Westfries Museum in Hoorn of this location in the 16th century. We from 'Reelstreets' say to the owner of this house: Dank u wel!
