Dead Man’s Chest (An Edgar Wallace Mystery)

Having made an arrangement to be kidnapped, Johnnie Gordon (John Meillon) enters Bella Vista Apartments where David Jones has agreed to assist in the stunt aimed at furthering their careers as writers.

David Jones (John Thaw) enlists the help of Groves (Arthur Brough), the building's concierge, to load the chest containing Johnnie into his car.

In a nearby car park, Knocker (Jack Rodney) attempts to steal a suitable vehicle for a bank robbery organised by Joe and Arthur.

Having parked up to check that Johnnie is OK, David shouts at the thief who drives away with the chest still in the back of his Standard Vanguard Estate.

After advising a disbelieving Sergeant Matson about the theft, David runs to a local newspaper office to tell his pal Murchie what's happened to Johnnie. Facing number 10 Merton Park Parade on The Rush in SW19.

When Groves discovers blood and reports that Gordon has been murdered, David is taken to the Police Station. The corner of Rothesay Avenue and Kingston Road in Wimbledon SW20, a location that appears in 'The Blazing Caravan' and 'The Dover Road Mystery'.

As she heads to Scotland following a visit to husband while he awaits trial, Mildred Jones (Ann Firbank) is unnerved when she sees a chest on a luggage barrow at the station. The concourse of Marylebone station on Melcombe Place NW1.

In Dundee, Mildred meets up with Flora McClain, a former girlfriend of Johnnie Gordon, and is shown an old postcard from the missing man which prompts the two to drive south.

Arriving at a club in Denbighshire, Flora McClain (Renny Lister) and Mildred get out of the car.

The second feature ends with a taxi carrying David, Johnnie, Mildred and Flora from the newspaper office. The Rush in Merton SW19.

As the camera zooms out, through the end titles we see the junction of The Rush and Kingston Road with the roof of Merton Park Studios to the top centre.

The camera follows the cab as it passes Ye Olde Leather Bottel public house and turns from Kingston Road into Merton Hall Road SW19. The pub and its sign are also seen in 'Konga', 'The Key Man', 'The Blazing Caravan' and 'Never Back Losers' while the parade of shops appear in 'Hidden Homicide' and 'The Grand Junction Case'.
