Delayed Flight

Detained at the airport because of a smallpox scare on flight 504, Helen Strickland (Helen Cherry) escapes from quarantine and makes her way to the Stewardess' rest room.

Dressed as an air stewardess, Mrs. Strickland leaves the airport as Doctors discover that Lieutenant Colonel Brampton has also disappeared.

Police cars drive through the streets of the nearby town, broadcasting descriptions of the missing Passengers. Facing west on High Street in Maidenhead, Berkshire with the Red Lion public house to the right of centre next to E.T. Biggs & Sons department store on the right.

The Red Lion is now The Maiden's Head, and terraces have appeared on the right. (SR)

As they go about their business, Residents pause to listen to the urgent announcement. Outside the British Legion Club on Bridge Street, Maidenhead.

The British Legion Club closed in 2006 and the Fat Buddha Indian restaurant now occupies the spot. (SR)

At the airport, secret agent Darrell Hicks (Neal Arden) makes his way toward a hangar to avoid enemy agent Shentor.

Walking across the airport after changing out of his uniform, Lieutenant Colonel Calvin Brampton (Hugh McDermott) comes across the fatally wounded Hicks who hands over an attaché case to be delivered to Haines in London.

Beyond the perimeter fence, the Lieutenant Colonel gets a lift in a van after being shot at by Shentor.

Following the US Army Officer, Shentor (Paul Williamson) gets into the Ford Customline driven by Dooley (John Watson).

The Agents tail the van as it heads away from the airport.

Having turned around, the Lieutenant Colonel spots that they're being followed through the back windows of the van.

Brampton watches the road ahead as the Ford remains close behind. Shoppenhangers Road, Maidenhead with Buckingham, Somerset Lodge and Wiltshire Lodge crossing the background.

Shentor and Dooley keep up the pursuit.

Brampton asks the van Driver to stop, paying him for the ride as he gets out.

Following a struggle with Shentor in the warehouses and workshops, the Lieutenant Colonel appears at a doorway.

Brampton runs towards a gate and along an alley as Shentor recovers himself.

Clutching the attaché case, the Lieutenant Colonel flees from the scene as Dooley arrives outside the premises.

Brampton reaches the end of the passage. The alley runs between the Queens Arms public house and number 45 Queen Street in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Now the view is of rubbish bins and a dingy block of flats. (SR)

Looking through the window of a café, the Lieutenant Colonel spots Mrs. Strickland inside and asks her to help. The window of number 45 Queen Street.

Reluctantly taking the attaché case, Helen leaves the café by a rear exit as Shentor and Dooley enter by the front door. The Queens Arms at number 43 Queen Street and the crossroads formed by Broadway to the left.

Outside the café, a police car continues to broadcast Helen and Brampton's descriptions. Bridge Street, Maidenhead with the ABC cinema, formerly the Rialto, set back at the corner of High Street and Bridge Avenue to the right. An office block now stands on the site of the cinema that closed in 1985.

The view is now dominated by the The Picturehouse block and Pizza Express. (SR)

The police car moves on as Shentor holds his gun to the Lieutenant Colonel's, directing him from the café. Bridge Street, facing shops standing opposite the Crown Hotel.

The Crown was demolished around 2006, and an Italian restaurant stands in its place. The area beyond Crown Lane to the right of the capture was completely redeveloped as part of the Waterside Quarter in 2022. (SR)

The tall building that has appeared is Berkshire House. It started as a concrete office block in the late 60s and underwent a major conversion to residential accommodation in 2016. It is Maidenhead's tallest building. (SR)

On a quieter street, a Policeman signals for Dooley to stop . . . allowing a police car to turn from a side road.

Dooley and Shentor drive on after Brampton takes the opportunity to get out of the car.

The Lieutenant Colonel crosses the street and enters a bingo hall. Queen Street, facing the Plaza cinema at numbers 54 to 56. The cinema had closed in October 1962 and was converted into the bingo club seen here.

Taking the story forward, the bingo ended in the early 2000s. The building hosted various clubs, then in 2019 it suffered serious damage in a fire. Now the whole area is part of a large residential development. (SR)

As Dooley and Shentor circle the town, Brampton makes his way to the yard at the rear of the bingo hall. The rear of the Crown Hotel in Maidenhead.

Lieutenant Colonel Brampton enters the hotel where Helen is waiting. Facing the long lost Crown Hotel at 1 Bridge Street, Maidenhead, next door to the British Legion Club seen earlier.

When the Police arrive at the hotel instructing all strangers to the emergency vaccination centre, Brampton makes his way onto the roof after Shentor tries to take the attaché case. Down Place at Water Oakley in Berkshire.

The American climbs down the fire escape. The Grade II listed Down Place, inside which some of the hotel interiors were shot.

Seeing Shentor appear on the roof, the Lieutenant Colonel comes out of hiding to make his escape. The angle of the walls confirms that this is the roof of Down Place, home of Bray Studios.

Making his way back inside, Brampton finds Helen and the two leave by a back exit. Down Place off Windsor Road, Water Oakley.

Outside the gates of the hotel, the pair are captured by Dooley. Seen earlier, this is the unnamed road on the west side of the Crown Hotel in Maidenhead.

Joined by Shentor, Dooley drives the prisoners to a respectable country club.

As Shentor explains why they want the attaché case, Dooley drives to the club's car park.

Shentor marches Brampton and Helen through a boat yard before the Army Officer makes his move.

Overcoming their captors, Brampton tells Helen to wait while he creates a diversion.

The Lieutenant Colonel runs through the boat yard followed by Shentor.
