Didn’t You Kill My Brother? (The Comic Strip Presents . . . )

Docile Carl Moss is serving a 30 year sentence, having been stitched up by his violent twin brother Sterling. HMP Wormwood Scrubs, Du Cane Road, London W12.

After serving 5 years, Carl (Alexei Sayle) is let out as a model prisoner and put on probation. Wormwood Scrubs.

A cyclist is confronted outside a school by a lollipop lady (Beryl Reid). Treadgold Street W11, looking southwest. The school building has been replaced by modern housing.

Things look very different today. St. Francis of Assisi Primary School has been built a few metres down the street forming a corner with Stoneleigh Street.

She flattens the cyclist, and a youth steals his bike. The school building stood next to the surviving St. Clement's Church, Notting Dale, the edge of which can just be seen at the top left of the capture.

A block of flats now neighbours the church, occupying the Stoneleigh Street corner. (SR)

Carl arrives with his probation officer Pauline (Pauline Melville) to start his role as an "unstructured activities co-ordinator" for the teenagers. Treadgold Street looking west with the Chrysalis Building in the distance. The view no longer exists due to road changes and the construction of St. Francis of Assisi Primary School in the mid-1990s.

Pity about the van, but the only parts of the view to survive from the capture are the tree in the pavement and the very tips of the Chrysalis building, now the Phoenix Brewery, in the distance. (SR)

A gang of youths take a chainsaw to a telegraph pole to steal a bike chained to it. Oval Road at the entrance to Regent's Park Terrace, Primrose Hill NW1.

The gang admire their work. This should logically be looking north on Oval Road NW1, but it doesn't look right, so, currently unidentified. Denis Hoare confirms that you are absolutely correct Phil, the large shed at the back with the distinctive sign board, part of what was Camden Goods Yard, that can be seen in London Picture Archive 110278. For the comparative shot Denis found that the yard has since been redeveloped and the sheds are replaced with residential blocks. (RL)

Carl heads out on his bike at night to visit his old haunts. He cycles under the railway bridge into Hercules Road SE1. The bridge is also seen in 'Passport to Pimlico'.

Carl heads for a Chinese restaurant, where the language courses he took in prison come in handy. 4 Hampton Street SE1.

With new building, since 2017, to the left but the Asian theme continues to this restaurant just west of Walworth Road. SJ

Leaving the Chinese takeaway, Carl pontificates to camera while his bike is stolen behind his back. Facing west on Hampton Street.

Carl's evil twin brother Sterling runs a ring of bicycle thieves, restoring and reselling the bikes. He operates from a workshop with the help of his mother. 29 Margravine Road W6.

When Carl sets the teenagers building bicycles. Pauline gets her nutty father Judge Hate to sign a paper restraining him. Unknown location.

Carl and Sterling's mother Mrs. Moss, the lollipop lady, gets Sterling's accomplices to help him confront Carl, who is ruining their criminal business. The yard at 29 Margravine Road, with the rooftops of Claybrook Road running behind.

Sterling and his henchman arrive to deal with Carl as the drama reaches its violent conclusion. Looking across Treadgold Street to the junction with Whitchurch Road. The building at the extreme top right is the only one remaining today.
