Mortimer (Nicholas Phipps) takes Lieutenant Babbington (Terence Alexander) to meet the men that he will be taking to the Adriatic by submarine. Adam Jezard advises that this is clearly the old Callow Hill sandpit in Virginia Water, Surrey sometimes referred to as the Egham Sandpits. It was a backdrop for Dr Who as well as a regular Hammer location and appears in 'The Camp on Blood Island', 'Pirates of Blood River', 'Night of the Big Heat' among many others. Adam continues "It became a landfill site at the end of the 60s before being 're-wilded'. Nothing remains to be seen of it from the road. It lies just below Royal Holloway University and I believe some of it is now devoted to the Uni biology lab."

Lieutenant Brown (Thorley Walters), Ackroyd (Harry Fowler), Sergeant Bolter (Percy Herbert) and Finch (George Cole) sit in an inflatable dinghy during training for their mission. Adam Jezard suspects that this is likely to be Monkey Island, next to Bray Studios in Berkshire, which frequently doubled for Hammer jungle or water settings such as those seen in 'Captain Clegg'.

After he and his fellow soldiers are sent to an uninhabited island to set up an observation post, Finch pulls the dinghy ashore as Brown climbs to higher ground.

The Lieutenant scans the horizon. Adam Jezard identifies this as Chobham Common in Surrey . . .
. . . and returned to the location for this comparison in which the contours of the hill can just be made out in the distance.

The shot pans with Lieutenant Brown's binoculars. Chobham Common located by Adam Jezard. The common appears in many productions including 'Carry On Cowboy', ‘Only When I Larf’, 'The Break', ‘The Night Caller’, 1971’s 'Dad's Army' and, from different angles, 'A Weekend With Lulu' as well as the opening of 'Quatermass II'.
Adam's view shows the remains of the old tracks but changes have taken place over time.

Sharing an interest in archaeology, Finch and Schmidt (Gertan Klauber) return to the site where a pterodactyl has been discovered. Chobham Common again.
