With her client's (Denis Clayton [Alexander Gauge] of Clayton Advertising) apartment behind her Barbara Leyland (Rona Anderson) sets off to shoot pictures which are to be used as background shots for the advertising company for whom she works. By chance she captures her clients bookmaker, Mike Geraghty (Eric Berry), approaching the apartment block.

I did my best not to capture anyone.

He continues to his destination. It is "something" HOUSE and the "something" seems to end in a "D" and have an "O" as the first or second letter. Jules proved that my squinting was not far off, Roland House, Roland Gardens, London SW7

Pete Fleming (John Bentley) is appointed to find Barbara who has suddenly disappeared, supposedly with £5,000 of jewellery. After visiting her apartment and talking to her “flat mate” he leaves to call on the shop where she sent the film to be developed. Cranmer Court, Whitehead Grove, London SW3

All very much the same but cleaner.

Pete arrives at the photographers shop. The Green, Southall, London UB2 (Kingston Rd)

The shop owner is rightfully unhelpful but Pete learns that the negatives have been sent by registered post and he goes to the local Post Office to find out the address to where they were sent. Star Street and Edgware Road, London W2

His next stop are the offices of Clayton Advertising. The Quadrant, Richmond, London TW9

Re-developed and somewhere to chain your bike.

Fleming then goes off to Winchester with a view to meeting up with Barbara Leyland and the negatives. Winchester City Station. Bulleid “Merchant Navy” Class No 35020 “Bibby Line”. Hopefully my interest and research has produced the correct identification here but I stand to be corrected by an expert(s).

No longer a shop and with timbers exposed.

Pete waits outside Barbara’s local Post Office for her to collect the envelope containing the negatives. Beaconsfield Road and the corner with South Road, Southall.

Now the Punjab National Bank. Had it not been for substantial road works I could have obtained a better angle.

He sees who he identifies as Barbara leave the Post Office doorway in South Road with the corner of Beaconsfield Road, Southall.

At least the doorway remains.

After confronting her she makes a dash for it, emerging in High Street, Harrow.

Not quite sure how she would have suddenly appeared in that spot unless things have changed significantly.

Having apparently crossed the road she is then seen running down the High Street, only a few meters to the left of where she emerged!

One wouldn't expect much to change in Harrow.

A few paces on she ducks into Obadiah Slope.

Quickly followed by Pete.

Barbara is next seen on the opposite side of the road outside what is now a Medical Centre.

Emerging back on the High Street opposite capture 16.

It is not often that a telephone box appears after the film, they are usually props!

Pete continues to follow her. Now private land. The gateway stands opposite Obadiah Slope off High Street.

Antony Blair found that the scene has lost its background properties during the intervening 70 years!

Once again Barbara finds herself in the opposite direction, here where West Street, joins High Street.

Now.

She continues to run along the High Street.

If I had waited for that lorry to move I would have been very wet.

Stops to look back at her pursuer. High Street.

All well kept and attended to, now.

Then runs down Short Hill back towards the shop.

Much more salubrious.

Where Short Hill and West Street meet Barbara bumps into Pete and later he sees the copy negatives that she has just collected from the Post Office.

More likely to bump into a car these days.

Having found Barbara, Pete is mysteriously pulled off the case by Clayton but convinced of her innocence he decides to continue his investigation. On his return to his apartment he is “collected” by Clayton's chauffeur. Shouldham Street, London W1 with Bryanston Place off to the right in the background. Also seen in They Can’t Hang Me

After leaving Clayton’s office his chauffeur attempts to run Pete over. Our old friend St. Margarets, Richmond and The Boltons just outside Twickenham Studios. Also seen in The Embezzler, Delayed Action and Strongroom.

Let's be honest, he should have looked over his shoulder.

He later calls at Scotland Yard to look up records on the chauffeur Trixon whom he thought he had recognised throughout.

That "temporary" structure looks more permanent than the last one!

Pete sets off to return to his apartment where Barbara is waiting for him with enlargements of the film negatives, one of which showing Clayton's car near the apartment block at the time Mrs Clayton died. He tells her to stay in the apartment. Looking out of the window she sees that Clayton’s “pet gorilla, Trixon", (Ryck Rydon) is watching the apartment. Brown Street and Harrowby Street, London W1. Pete telephones Barbara and learns of Trixon and sets off to “surprise” him. Unknown location.

He races down Brown Street, Castlereagh Street off to the right.

More lines, more parking.

He approaches Trixon who is still on the corner.

The one I overlooked on my last visit. Is that Trixon still there?

Trixon tries to run for it but Pete’s skilful driving is no match for him. The cross roads of Shouldham Street, Harrowby Street and Brown Street.

I overlooked 033 when I was there.

Following the amusing excursion he heads of to a racecourse to meet Clayton for “a cozy chat”. Peter Brown narrowed the odds and was first past the post with Cheltenham. Almost certainly stock footage.

Having agreed to meet Clayton at his office he finds him shot. With the benefit of further evidence a “set-up” is arranged but heavies dressed as the Police speed to Pete’s apartment to abduct Barbara. They also take Beaumont (Garry Marsh), Pete’s boss, who was with her. Whitehead's Grove and Elystan St. London SW3

That white bollard is still there.

Unfortunately, Pete arrives just too late but sees them drive off. Unknown location, but maybe the distant spire will help.
