A plane from France lands at Gatwick Airport after being diverted from London Airport. Gatwick Airport was in Surrey at the time of filming and was moved to West Sussex when county boundaries were changed in 1974.

Jane Winston drives to the airport to meet the flight. The road leading from the northbound Brighton Road to the Terminal Building at Gatwick Airport.

The Sud Aviation Caravelle taxis towards the Terminal. With the film makers confusing us to whether the flight was diverted at all, Roy Pryer identifies this as London Airport, since 1966 Heathrow Airport, in Middlesex with the Control Tower in the background.

Getting out of her Humber Snipe Estate, Mary Winston (Jeanette Sterke) dashes into the terminal to meet her sister Jane and Mr. Cleeve. Gatwick Airport to the north of Crawley.

Carrying their luggage, a Porter (Ron Eagleton) accompanies John Cleeve (Alan MacNaughtan) and his nurse Jane Winston (Jane Griffiths) from the plane. The arrivals hall at Gatwick Airport in Surrey.

That night, John Cleeve suffers a terrible nightmare in which he kills his business partner Derreck Alwyn.

After stockbroker Derreck Alwyn and Selena Osmond hold a party to celebrate their forthcoming marriage, Mary is driven through Brighton by John Cleeve's solicitor. Facing north at the southern end of Old Steine.

The roundabout has been reduced in size and the Old Steine Restaurant is now a Harry Ramsden's fish and chip restaurant. (SD)

The camera follows the sports car across the junction of Old Steine, Steine Street, Marine Parade King's Cliff and Madeira Drive. The area also features in ‘Genevieve’, ‘The Big Switch’, ‘Be My Guest’, 'One Good Turn' and ‘Pop Pirates’.

The building on the right was constructed in 1970 and replaced the Albermarle Hotel which was demolished in 1959. (SD)

This is Madeira Drive with Marine Parade King's Cliff behind the Aquarium.

The Aquarium has now become Brighton Sea Life. This section of Madeira Drive was also seen in 'Ashes and Sand' and 'London to Brighton'. (SD)

Madeira Terrace closed to the public in 2012 due to corrosion causing the structure to become unsafe. The terrace last appeared on film in 'Brighton Rock' (2010). (SD)

Harrison parks up outside Cleeve's apartment block before he and Mary enter to show her patient a magazine article featuring the man that may have been his partner. Marine Gate can also be seen in 'The Big Switch' and 'Playground Express'.

When Alwyn becomes suspicious after Mary takes the place of his secretary Sally Carter, she and John discuss his father. Looking down onto one of the groynes stretching out into the English Channel from Undercliff Walk below Marine Drive between Roedean and Rottingdean to the east of Brighton. Another of the groynes can be seen in 'Strangler's Web'.

The Undercliff Walk was completed in 1933. A further section to Saltdean Gap was added in 1935. The sea defences at Ovingdean were rebuilt in 1995. (SD)

Revealed that he isn't who he claims to be, he recalls being in Africa with the real John Cleeve who had attempted to kill him. In the background, Seen from Above Ovingdean Beach, Marine Drive follows the coast towards Brighton while Greenways heads off to the right.

Marine Drive now has a roundabout at the junction with Greenways. On the horizon, to the right of Marine Drive, is Roedean School and to the left is Brighton Marina. The same view, but from beside the A259. was seen in 'Mona Lisa'. (SD)

Mary signals for a bus to stop after phoning Harrison to tell him that she has contacted builder Jason Hobart about the plans for the Roof of the World, Alwyn's former home. Chris Fippard's extensive research led him to locate Common Lane at the junction with South View to the north of Ditchling in Sussex adding that the Southdown bus stop flag has an added 'fare stage' indicator which identifies the stop as "Cottage Homes" on route 23. Old maps of the area also include the since removed telephone kiosk.

In the village of Poynings, Mary asks for directions to Hobart's premises. High Street in Ditchling, Sussex located by Richard Lovejoy (RL).

Alerted by Hobart's employee Ned Cooper (Patrick Parnell), a Policeman (Derek Sumner) calls to Harrison to stop after he gets into his car. The end on junction of North End and High Street in Ditchling. (RL)

As Alwyn opens the safe inside, Martha Bradshaw arrives at the Roof of the World, the house from the nightmare.

Reflected in a mirror, a patrol car speeds towards Hobart's workshop. Reflected in the mirror is East End Lane off High Street in Ditchling identified by Richard Lovejoy.

The old mirror has been replaced with one that doesn't project beyond the building line. PB.

Detective Inspector Ames (Hamilton Dyce) gets out of the car and goes inside to question Mary and Cooper. High Street, Ditchling in Sussex recognised by RL.
