Storyline:

Thriller set among the Russian mafia in London from Canadian director David Cronenberg. Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen) is a driver for one of London’s organized crime families, headed by Semyon (Armin Mueller-Stahl), a cold and brutal man who hides his true nature behind his public role as a charming restaurateur and his volatile son and enforcer, Kirill (Vincent Cassell), is Nikolai’s closest friend. Nikolai’s carefully maintained existence is threatened when he meets Anna Khitrova (Naomi Watts), a midwife at a North London hospital who has been deeply affected by the plight of a teenager (Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse) who died giving birth. The girl left behind a diary written in Russian in which Anna seeks the answers to the baby’s lineage. By delving into the diary, Anna has accidentally unleashed the full fury of the Vory. With Semyon and Kirill closing ranks and Anna pressing her inquiries – Nikolai finds his loyalties divided. Lives hang in the balance as a disturbing chain of murder and revenge reverberates through the darkest corners of both the family and London itself.

If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

Anna (Naomi Watts) rides across Southwark Bridge on Southwark Bridge Road, London EC4V 3PT.

Now reduced to two lanes. Fortunately not too much traffic of any kind so I ventured into the middle. SJ

Police find the body washed up on the sandbank just next to the Thames Barrier on the Greenwich Peninsula, London SE7. These are one of the largest moveable flood barriers in the world. The barrier also makes an appearance in 'Alien Autopsy'.

Viewed from the Thames Path at high tide. Even if it had been low tide, all the possible ways to get down on to the sandbank seemed inaccessible. (SD)

A building housing sex trafficked workers is located on 74 Christchurch Avenue, London NW6 7PE.

Site visitor Richard Bennett provided this update location shot and noted the expensive looking extension on the right side.

Nikolai gets the diary from Anna, but she confronts him outside the Wimpy bar at 251a Southwark Park Road, Bermondsey, London SE16 3TS. The Blue Anchor public house stands next door and the Wimpy also appears in 'Nil by Mouth'.

Nikolai gives Naomi Watts the family address outside the hospital where she works. Site visitor Steve Randall made a great discovery by spotting that this location is in fact the Jenner Building of the Whittington Hospital and it still exists. It is at 1A Gordon Close, London N19. The bright red fire escape is visible from Google Earth.

Paul Lincoln captured this shot, as he was passing, of the scene now amongst yet more development work. (RL)

The football supporters leave the Stamford Bridge soccer stadium (large background building) and spill out onto Fulham Road SW6 1HS.

This shot is just around the corner from the previous location, still on Fulham Road, but in real life the fans are now walking towards the stadium. The large building on the right is the Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions SW6 1DT.

Looking towards Fulham Broadway tube station. SJ

The football fans are then shown coming out of Kempsford Gardens, across Old Brompton Road and then into Brompton Cemetery, London SW10 9UG.

Less crowded today. SJ

Ekrem (Josef Altin) is enjoying annoying the opposition supporters as he walks through Brompton Cemetery. Chelsea Football club stadium is in the background. In reality he's actually heading back towards the entrance that he was just seen coming through in the previous shot. Brompton Cemetery is part of the "Magnificent Seven", an informal term applied to seven large private cemeteries in London. Other films shot here include 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation', 'Under Suspicion', 'Melody', 'Goldeneye', 'Afraid of the Dark' and 'Johnny English'.

Nothing like a good tramp through brambles on a hot day. This may benefit from a winter shot but the grave markers on the left match as does Chelsea stadium. SJ

Front shot of the 'Trafalgar Hospital'. This was the old Middlesex Hospital off Mortimer Street, Fitzrovia, London W1T 3PW. It was a teaching hospital that closed in 2005 and was demolished in 2008, not long after 'Eastern Promises' used it for filming. The new development of Fitzroy Place now stands on the site.
