A public building, could it be some part of the London Hospital, Whitechapel? Hospital" frontage shot. Standing in for the London Hospital, Whitechapel, this is the old Eastern Hospital in Homerton, London E9 (demolished in the mid-1980s and the new Homerton Hospital built on the site). All the exterior hospital shots for this film were shot there as the London Hospital had too many modern extensions added to allow for period-correct filming. Topov.

Dr. Treves makes his way through a street market towards the place where 'The Elephant Man' is being kept. Pendar Sillwood tells us that "Elsewhere in the film, a direction sign for Pickford's Wharf can be seen. There is still a Pickford's Wharf in Clink Street SE1 so it lends weight to this being in the area". See Capture 6 (RL)

Further along the stalls in the street market. Clink Street again, flats in the mid right might still be there. Les Stitson adds, the cobbled street scenes were all filmed in the Clink Street area of Southwark. By adjusting the tonal visibility of the background building in this capture Ray Glenisiter has revised his previous location identification to looking across Winchester Square from Clink Street.
