Fake, The

At the docks. all manner of goods are unloaded from a freighter.

On the deck of the ship, American security expert Paul Mitchell (Dennis O'Keefe) watches as crates containing valuable artworks rise from the hold.

A crate destined for the Tate Gallery is wheeled across the quayside by a Stevedore (Harold Sanderson) before a Man (John Wadham) pushes his trolley into its path.

As a fight between Dock Workers breaks out, Paul notices a single flat crate being loaded onto a lorry.

Discovering that Da Vinci's 'Madonna and Child' on view at the Tate Gallery is a fake, Paul meets Mary Mason for tea. The Tate Gallery on Millbank in London SW1. The gallery also plays a part in ‘Bean’, 'A King in New York', ‘The Horse’s Mouth’, ‘Seven Days to Noon’, ‘A Game for Vultures’, 'Food for a Blush', ‘Fun at St. Fanny's’ and ‘Stop Press Girl’.

Continuing his enquiries, Paul visits The Sabin Gallery where artist Henry Mason had an exhibition of his work some years earlier. Dave W advises, unusually, in haste, that Sabin's here are at 17 Duke Street, St. James', London SW1 (RL)

Receiving no help at Sabin & Sons, Paul returns to the Tate Gallery. Looking southward on Millbank SW1.

A Thug (Tom Clegg) watches Henry Mason's flat while Paul dines with his daughter Mary. The steps of 29 Cheyne Row in Chelsea SW3 identified by Peter Bywaters.

The evening draws on before Weston (Seymour Green) arrives in his car to give the Thug further orders. Peter Bywaters found that the background house, number 30, stands on the corner of Glebe Place and Upper Cheyne Row in Chelsea.

Joined by an Associate (Guy Deghy), the Thug attacks Paul beneath a railway bridge before the two assailants run away when Smith appears.

Later that morning, Paul pursues an intruder at the Tate Gallery after an attempt to steal the 'Madonna and Child'. The roof of the Tate Galley on Millbank in London SW1.

After Paul and Smith follow a lead to the Wharfside Hotel, George the pavement artist arrives a little later.

Receiving a tip off from Paul when he realises who is behind four years of art thefts, the Police arrive to find Weston dead in a telephone box.

Sir Richard Aldingham arrives home with Mary Mason before the pair enter the building to find Paul Mitchell waiting inside.
