Fault in Our Stars, The

Hazel’s mother (Laura Dern) picks her up and they leave by car back home. Her mother tries to cheer her up but that doesn’t work that well. Location unknown

Instead of Hazel’s mother, Gus brings Hazel home in his car. But instead of going home they go to Gus house. Meanwhile they find out that Isaac’s girl broke up with him because he has terminal cancer as well. The three of them form a group of friends. Hazel likes a book of Peter van Houten (William Dafoe) so much that she really wants to meet him before she dies. Peter lives in Amsterdam. After an MRI scan Gus decides to wait for Hazel at her home and gives her some home picked flowers. 821 11th Street, Oakmont, USA

Gus has invited Hazel for a picnic in the park where they talk about all things in life. Gus also wants to meet Peter van Houten in Amsterdam and they decide to go there. 200 Hartwood Acres, Pittburgh, USA

Although the doctors think that she is too sick to go to Amsterdam she is determined to and they decide to go with Hazel's mother. Gus picks mother and daughter up in a big limo to go to the airport. He travels in style or not at all. Location unknown.

After landing on Schiphol airport the three take a taxi to their hotel and have a first impression of Amsterdam. Reestraat intersection with the Prinsengracht. The shot was taken from the Reesluis bridge, Amsterdam

This photo is practically the same as the capture except this one is taken in the wintertime.

For Gus and Hazel the trip with the taxi could last forever. The shot has been taken from the Reguliersgtracht and we are looking at the intersection with the Herengracht, Amsterdam

In the winter there are not many boats in the canals.

Actually the taxi does take a long way to get to the hotel. Amstelveld. Intersection Prinsengracht and Reguliersgracht.

Can anybody tell Frank what that ugly green thing is doing in the middle of his photo!?

Finally they arrive at the hotel in the centre of the city. Hotel Americain, Leidseplein intersection Marnixstraat, Amsterdam. The hotel can be seen in the background during 'Super Agent Super Dragon'.

Recently this beautiful Art Deco hotel/restaurant has been taken over by the company Hard Rock Café. On top of the building you can now read 'Hard Rock Café'. Such a shame.

The three check in at the hotel and admire the beautiful art deco interior. Once in their room, Gus and Hazel find that Peter van Houten has arranged a dinner for the two of them. Both are nicely dressed up. But first, what every tourist should do once in Amsterdam, they take a canal tour by boat and see Amsterdam from it’s best side. The 'Hans Snoekfontein' fountain in front of the 'Americain' was made by Gerarda Rueter in 1962. The hotel Americain is from 1881 and was designed by the famous Ed Cuypers.

As usual, Amsterdam is under construction. Frank did not want to go for a swim in the winter to take the perfect photo with the perfect angle.

In the background can be seen the City Theatre on the Leidseplein. The City Theatre was designed by Jan Wils and opened in 1935.

Gus and Hazel take a long evening walk to the restaurant. Keizersgracht 492, Amsterdam

Frank thinks that the filmmakers did remove the bikes. A place in Amsterdam center without bikes is like the ocean without water.

Finally they arrive at the restaurant. When drinking champagne you can taste the stars. Keizersgracht 498, Amsterdam

Gus and Hazel did eat in restaurant 'Oranjee' but at this address there is no restaurant at all. It is a ‘normal’ house on the Keizersgracht.

After a romantic dinner they decide for a late walk in Amsterdam. Museumstraat, passage through the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

For years this passage was closed because of the restoration of the Rijksmuseum. Frank thinks that it was well worth waiting for as it is now more beautiful.

This is new, these huge glass windows make the passage so much better than the way it was before.

It took Frank a long time to identify this place and the only good lead he had was the dome in the background. It is not the famous renaissance Sonesta dome on the Singel but it turned out to be the dome of the Hirsch building on the Leidseplein.

From the hotel they take a tram 4 to Peter van Houten’s house. In reality this tram does not even come close to the Leidseplein or Peter van Houten’s house. Leidseplein the entrance of Café Americain, Amsterdam

Frank simply loves the early Sunday mornings in Amsterdam.

They arrive in Amsterdam south and walk to Peter’s house. Hazel is very nervous about this meeting. She hopes to get some answers about the book he wrote. Vondelstraat 162, Amsterdam

In the backgroundcan be seen the Vondel church. This was a Roman Catholic church designed by P.J.H. Cuypers but, since 1977, it now serves as an office building.

Even though it is wintertime; Plants do grow!

Peter’s girlfriend opens the door and let the couple in but Peter is not in the best mood. He drinks and is very offensive and rude to them. He asks them what they think of Swedish rap music and other nonsense. Obviously, Gus and Hazel are very disappointed. He calls them a failed experiment in mutation, a fault in the stars. It ends in a verbal fight and they leave the building. Vondelstraat 162, Amsterdam.

Will the owners of this house ever get bored with all the people that photograph it because of the film? Future photographers; Always respect the privacy of the owners, please…

For the people who wants to visit this place, on the left is a nice park called the Vondelpark where, in the summertime, it is perfect for a nice long walk.

All of sudden Peter’s girlfriend, Lidewij (Lotte Verbeek), runs after them, makes an apology for his behaviour, and invites them to a visit of the Anne Frank house. They agree. Vondelstraat 162, Amsterdam

Women cannot transform themselves into scooters!

A bl***y shame that they had to make heavy poles to avoid any terrorist action on this important place.

Less people more buildings.

It takes her enormous effort and pain to climb the stairs but she makes it! In the upper floor Gus and Hazel finally kiss each other. Everybody starts to clap their hands. A very emotional moment. Westermarkt 20, Anne Frankhuis, Amsterdam

They walk to a bench next to one of the most beautiful canals of Amsterdam. Intersection Leidsegracht and Herengracht, Amsterdam

In the background can be seen the De Krijtberg church. For the record: This is the church where Frank was baptised.

Because the city council of Amsterdam wanted to get rid of all the homeless people on the streets they removed a lot of benches during the past years. Including this one. After huge protests they replaced the two benches here and ever since many people visit this place but it is heartbreaking to see all the graffiti, writing and scratching in and on this bench. Frank did read most of them. Heart breaking.

Here Gus tells Hazel the terrible news that his cancer has been spreading all over his body and that it will not be long before he will die. A very, very emotional moment in the film. Leidsegracht 4, Amsterdam

As can be seen they made this bench so it was not suitable for sleeping on. For all you visitors, it is the left bench not the right one!!

Back in the USA they hook up with Isaac again. He is now almost completely blind and the three decide to take revenge on Isaac's ex-girlfriend by throwing eggs to her house and car. They just bought the eggs. Location unknown.

They drive to her house and hilariously Isaac throws the eggs in a wrong direction. 1304 Summit Drive, Eaton Drive, Oakmont, USA

More to the left! And bingo the first egg hits the car and the second one the house. The car alarm goes off and Monika (Isaac’s ex) mother comes out. They tell her to go inside so they can continue to throw the eggs. 1304 Summit Drive, Eaton Drive, Oakmont, USA

Gus is deteriorating so fast that he tries to commit suicide but luckily Hazel stops him from doing so. Later Gus decides to stop the chemo because there is no hope of recovery. He can hardly walk anymore an spends his last days in a wheelchair now. 300 Heritage Drive, Wilkins Township, Pittsburgh, USA

For the last time they visit their beloved park where they went when they first met each other. 200 Hartwood Acres, Pittburgh, USA

Not long after Gus passes away and during his funeral Peter van Houten shows up. Hazel is shocked and furious that he dare to show up. Hazel makes a beautiful improvised speech and everybody is impressed by her speech. Church Hill Cemetery, 250 Churchill Road, Wilkins Township, USA

Peter (Willem Dafoe) opens Hazel’s door and steps in and starts drinking. They get into an argument. Peter tells Hazel that he and Gus have been writing letters to each other and gives Hazel a letter that Gus wrote and it is basically a declaration, an eulogy that he is totally devoted to her.
