Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old cancer patient, meets and falls in love with Gus Waters, a similarly afflicted teen from her cancer support group. Hazel feels that Gus really understands her. They both share the same acerbic wit and a love of books, especially Grace’s touchstone, “An Imperial Affliction” by Peter Van Houten. When Gus scores an invitation to meet the reclusive author, he and Hazel embark on the adventure of their brief lives.
Additional Information:
Screen captures and text together with uncredited comparison shots provided by Frank van den Berg and uploaded by Richard Lovejoy.
Author John Green based the character Hazel on a young girl named Esther Earl who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Green met her during a Harry Potter convention in 2009 noticing her carrying an oxygen tank. He came to like her because of some of the videos she put up on YouTube as well as her humour and openness. From the time they met to her death at the age of 16 in 2010, Green and Earl would exchange correspondence.

Can anybody tell Frank what that ugly green thing is doing in the middle of his photo!?

- 04 Feb 2021

Finally they arrive at the hotel in the centre of the city. Hotel Americain, Leidseplein intersection Marnixstraat, Amsterdam. The hotel can be seen in the background during 'Super Agent Super Dragon'.

Recently this beautiful Art Deco hotel/restaurant has been taken over by the company Hard Rock Café. On top of the building you can now read 'Hard Rock Café'. Such a shame.

It took Frank a long time to identify this place and the only good lead he had was the dome in the background. It is not the famous renaissance Sonesta dome on the Singel but it turned out to be the dome of the Hirsch building on the Leidseplein.
- Capture 24

It ends in a verbal fight and they leave the building. Vondelstraat 162, Amsterdam.

Will the owners of this house ever get bored with all the people that photograph it because of the film? Future photographers; Always respect the privacy of the owners, please…

The, meanwhile, famous bench. Intersection Leidsegracht and Herengracht, Amsterdam

Because the city council of Amsterdam wanted to get rid of all the homeless people on the streets they removed a lot of benches during the past years. Including this one. After huge protests they replaced the two benches here and ever since many people visit this place but it is heartbreaking to see all the graffiti, writing and scratching in and on this bench. Frank did read most of them. Heart breaking.
