With New Year's Eve approaching, Photographer's model June Weston drives into a watersplash on her way to her Godmother's house in the country. Facing south at the ford taking the River Ash over Charlton Road that runs north from Shepperton to Charlton in Middlesex.

After June becomes stranded in the ford when her car stalls, Dr. Bill Craig (Donald Houston) prepares to rescue her. Charlton Road has since been bisected by the M3 motorway but the abandoned ford's footbridge survives.

While June Weston (Beverley Brooks) sits in her lifeless Ford Anglia, Bill wades through the water towards her. The ford on Charlton Road also features in ‘Cockleshell Heroes’ as well as 'And the Same to You'.

The camera follows the journey to its end on the garage forecourt where the Mechanic (Edgar Driver) tells June that her car will be ready the following morning. The garage on Chertsey Road is now a car dealership with the pagoda above the petrol pumps converted into a small showroom.

After the door is answered, the model is told by a Mr. Hurst that Miss Margaret Rees isn't at home.

Suspicious of Mr. Hurst's explanation about her Godmother's absence, June makes her way into the village to find accommodation. The corner of Church Road and Church Square in Shepperton. The building across the street can also be seen in 'Girdle of Gold'.
Nick's first comparison of the same corner, complete with parked truck to spoil the shot.

Discovering that Dr. Craig was supposed to be looking after Miss Rees but had been sent away by Mr. Hurst, June appears to be recognised by a Passer-by as she walks along the street. Facing south on Church Road, Shepperton.
Nick crossed the road from Church Square for the next sequence.

Another Stranger stops to watch the young woman when she passes. Church Road in Shepperton, with the entrances to the currently named Anchor Cottage and The Cottage as the background.
Nick Boorman found quite a difference 66 years later.

Crossing the road, a Man does a double take when he spots June which causes her to turn and walk in the opposite direction. Church Road, Shepperton with the building presently named 2 Lime Tree Cottages to the right.

A pub Customer almost bumps into June as he leaves the saloon bar. Church Square in Shepperton with the King’s Head public house to the left. The square also features in ‘Mysterious Island’, ‘The Set Up’, 'The 3 Worlds of Gulliver', ‘The Sleeping Tiger’, 'Hoverbug', 'The Dog Outwits the Kidnappers', ‘Paul Temple Returns’ and ‘Glad Tidings’.
Outside the King's Head now by Nick Boorman, where the luncheons and dinners have become delicious food.
