Flying Squad, The

At New Scotland Yard, Police Commissioner Sir Edward give Inspector Bradley a few more weeks to solve a smuggling case he's working on. As the sign says, New Scotland Yard on Victoria Embankment in SW1.

As they walk from New Scotland Yard, Inspector Bradley (Sebastian Shaw) breaks away from Johnson (Allan Jeayes) when informer Sederman (Basil Radford) asks for a light. Whitehall SW1 at the corner of Great Scotland Yard with the Houses of Parliament in the right distance.

Neil Kenny managed to grab this comparison despite a protest being redirected along Whitehall because of a person climbing the Elizabeth Tower!

Mayfair socialite Mark McGill closes his West End premises and moves to the East End. A murky view of Tower Bridge seen from, what appears to be, the vicinity of the wharves off St. Katherine's Way in E1.

At the story's Lady Stairs Wharf, Mark McGill (Jack Hawkins) looks out of Li Yoseph's decaying riverside home before telling his accomplice Ronnie Perryman that the police were onto the Bond Street place. Very atmospheric, but could this be a set at Elstree?

Beneath a bridge on a remote stretch of canal, Bargee (Wally Patch) picks up a delivery of face-powder brought from an airfield by Perryman. The lighting makes it difficult to discern whether this is a set or a real canal and bridge?

As his Wife steers, the Bargee pushes off from the bank. The canal here looks genuine enough.

Following the murder of her brother Ronnie, Ann Perryman (Phyllis Brooks) pulls over for petrol on her way to meet the plane from France after joining with McGill.

Ann speeds away from the airstrip after collecting the usual packages of face-powder. The roads are real, as is the fingerpost at the junction.

Arriving too late to intercept the rendezvous, Inspector Bradley and Johnson follow in a van. Another dark junction with an illegible signpost, however, the board to the right of centre points the way to ***lfield Park Riding School.

The chase continues past a finger post indicating that the road is the A500 between St. Albans and London . . . and prior to WWII the A500 was Finchley Road in north-west London which is now the A41.

Outside the Cosy Café, Ann crashes her car into a truck as it turns into the lorry park. The tiny café has the appearance of a set.

After helping at the scene of the crash and giving Ann a false name, Johnson asks the Inspector "Why are you letting her go?" Keeping the Hertfordshire theme, hoardings around the café advertise Colney Vale and West View Estate.

Stopping at a telephone kiosk, Ann calls McGill to pass on a message from the Inspector.

Overhearing McGill's lies and schemes when the phone is left off the hook, Ann contacts Inspector Bradley who makes his way to Yoseph's house at Lady Stairs Wharf.
