Four Sided Triangle

After a panoramic shot of a village is seen during the titles, the camera tilts up the tower of the local church. The white band of stonework gives away St Michael’s Church, High Street, Bray in Berkshire. Information from Richard Lovejoy.

The top of the tower is seen before Dr. Harvey begins a narration describing the village of Howdene. St Michael’s Church, Bray, which is also seen in 'Paranoiac', 'The Road Builder', 'There's a Girl in My Soup' and 'X The Unknown'.

The Crown & Anchor public house is seen. Tony Winzar has identified this as what was Royal Exchange pub in Cookham High Street. Now an Indian restaurant called Maliks. (RL)

The Doctor ends by describing the manor where fifteen generations of Grants have lived. Gilston Park in Hertfordshire, also seen in 'To Have and To Hold'.

Another shot of the manor is seen as the squire, Sir Walter Grant, sets off to go shooting. Tony Winzar points out that an identical capture is also seen in 'The Saint's Return'. (RL)

Robin Grant (John Van Eyssen) and Bill Leggat (Stephen Murray) wave to Lena when she leaves for America with her mother. This is the station at Marlow, Buckinghamshire. In 1967 the station was moved further east to the site of the goods yard.

Andrew Price took this view looking east from approximately where the platform stood.

When Robin and Bill leave for Cambridge to study science, Dr. Harvey (James Hayter) waves them off at the station. Marlow station with buildings on Station Road in the background. The location was used in 'Child's Play', 'Death of an Angel' and 'Nearly a Nasty Accident'.

Phil Richards sends us this comparative shot showing that the houses remain even if the station is long gone. However, it is pleasing to note that some of the platform remains and can be seen where the cars are parked on the left. (RL)

A weary and cynical Lena Maitland (Barbara Payton) returns to the scene of her childhood to live on what her mother left. Peter Adams identifies the location as near the junction of Hedsor Road and Ferry Lane in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire with Bourne Bank in the right background.

Phil took this shot of 'Bourne Bank' saying that the house could not be seen at all taken at the correct angle so this is the best angle he could find to provide the best shot. It looks fairly accurate to me Phil. (RL)

Robin Grant and Lena are married. Antony Blair identifies this as the main entrance to St. Michael's church at Bray.

Bill uses the 'Reproducer' to create a duplicate of Lena, who he names Helen, and takes her to the coast. An establishing shot of Lulworth Cove in Dorset, which is also seen in 'Nuts in May', ‘The Black Rider’, ‘The Boys in Blue’, 'Five on Treasure Island', 'World War Z', 'The Flaw' and ‘Out of Season’.
