Jimmy Snow worked on special effects at both Pinewood and Denham Studios but a name that often remained uncredited, as with this film. An interesting Biography and her Memories of him has been written for us by his granddaughter Brigitte, all of which can be read here.

This is the ornamental bridge in the garden of Heatherden Hall that also appears in ‘The Impersonator’, ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, ‘The Primitives’, 'The Hellfire Club', 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', 'Games That Lovers Play', 'The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins' and 'The Devils'. Hans took this closer shot of the Nuruosmaniye Mosque, close to the Grand Bazaar where he was invited into a shop to view a guestbook with Connery's autograph along with his address as Acacia House, Cent. Kerim Bey's son waits for Bond but the train fails to stop. Manuel Gurtner tells us that this is a German-built Decapod of TCDD-56.5 class 1-5-0 with an international express train for Austria and Germany taking the incline somewhere behind Yarimburgaz and heading towards Uzunköprü on the Greek border.

Hans has sent in this which shows extraordinary dramatic changes. Lat 41,039000 Long 28,760834. He spotted a 30 km sign which, measured from Sirkeci station, brought him to this spot which is Nükleer Araştirma Merkezi Yolu just before it meets Turgut Özal Bulvari looking south-east on the western fringes of Istanbul. An additional capture from Manuel Gurtner showing the last railway station before the Italian border where the allegedly defective 1958 Dodge pick-up blocks the main track and forces the "Orient Express" to an unscheduled stop where, under cover of darkness, Bond and Tatiana leave the train. In reality we are still in northwestern Turkey and see the level crossing at the station at Yarimburgaz, near the northern end of the Lake Küçükçekmece.

Manuel also provides this capture of Küçükçekmece Gölü, a large lagoon with a maximum depth of 20m, standing in for the Adriatic Sea around Trieste, where Bond waits behind the pick-up to knock out the driver, who is still watching for Grant.

Jon Opstad has provided this additional screen capture as local information and his own investigations disagrees that the water seen earlier is Loch Craignish. Whilst some filming was indeed done there it is actually a little further out to sea, the island in the back, more clearly identified in this capture being Eileen Dubh Mòr. (RL)

Robin Whelan reminds us that director Terence Young's helicopter crashed into the water with art director Michael White and a cameraman on board adding that afterwards "Terence Young stood, soaking wet with a blanket round him and calmly said "carry on" after which filming continued." Whilst in the area two years ago, Jon tracked down, with the help of the locals, the location of this screen capture. (RL)
