Ghost of a Chance, A (Children’s Film Foundation)

The film starts with a scene where Mike (Stephen Brown) and his pal John are seen squeezing though the gates of Hermitage House before they run up to the empty property as the titles appear. With a cast iron hint, these are the gates to Oakley Court on Windsor Road, Water Oakley in Berkshire.

Looking quite isolated, the same refurbished and moved gateway is here captured by Nick Williams.

In the village, Miss Woollie (Patricia Hayes) leaves her cottage laden with boxes. Facing west along Village Road in Denham, Buckinghamshire.

Antony found the highly recognisable cottage that Miss Marple usually occupies.

After reversing into the Villagers and covering them in exhaust fumes, Miss Woollie drives away towing a wicker shopping trolley that has become caught in her car's bumper. Village Road at the junction with The Pyghtle.

With cars having apparently overtaken the picturesque village, Antony took the best shot possible that includes the Falcon Inn to the left.

Bouncing on it's suspension springs, Miss Woollie brings the 2CV to a halt outside the library. Village Road, Denham. After bumping into Jane in the street, Miss Woollie tells her that she has spoken to the Mayor about using Hermitage House as a youth centre Village Road in Denham, Buckinghamshire.

Jane (Cheryl Vidgen) runs to the story’s Hermitage House to tell Mike and John the good news before the three of them discover two ghosts playing chess in a hidden room. After puzzling about the building since 1986, James Chandler found Bray Court on Windsor Road, Bray in Berkshire.

Following a visit by Mr. Prendergast and Mr. Perry, a lorry approaches the derelict building with equipment to begin demolition. Bray Court in Bray located by James Chandler who adds that the background buildings stand on Windsor Road.

The ghosts of Master Thomas Dogood (Graham Stark) and Sir Jocelyn Hermitage (Jimmy Edwards) see the lorry and begin a plan to frighten the workers away from the house. James Chandler advises that, in his biography, Bernard Cribbins recalls the house being demolished to make way for the M4.

Mr. Perry (Terry Scott) walks up to the front door to find it jammed shut before other ghostly happenings start to occur. Found by James Chandler, this is Bray Court in Berkshire. In it's time, the property has been a Spanish Children's Home, a Canadian hospital and the Bray Court Hotel as well as RAF Bray, home of several USAAF support units, including Engineering and Quartermaster units for seven months from February 1944.

Cut to the Town Hall. Haileybury Junior School, Clewer Manor on Imperial Road in Windsor, Berkshire identified by Steve Randall. The school closed in 1997.

Ron (Bernard Cribbins) directs the lorry back to the house after it was sent away by John and Mike. The grounds of Bray Court on Windsor Road, Bray identified by James Chandler.

Discovering that Mr. Prendergast and the Deputy Mayor are in league, Miss Woollie, the children and the ghosts leave Hermitage House with documents suggesting that the building is of historical importance. The entrance to Oakley Court in Water Oakley.

Miss Woollie pulls away as they all set out to look for the site of the Battle of Clews. The gateway of Oakley Court on Windsor Road, Water Oakley with the Lodge inside the perimeter to the right. The gateway can also be seen in 'The Road Builder'.

The lodge is still there but the gates are no longer. They've moved to the east as seen earlier.

Having driven through a barn, Miss Woollie brings the straw covered car to a halt.

Not able to see properly, Miss Woollie joins the boys on the back seat as Sir Jocelyn takes over driving.

Panning with the action, Antony Blair finds the same buildings with some alterations evident.

The Constable runs inside the Police Station to report to his Sergeant as Sir Jocelyn drives away. This shows the Memorial Hall, Harefield, since demolished, which stood at the junction of Rickmansworth Road with Hill End Road. (SR)

Entering woodland, the Citroën passes along the shore of a lake causing havoc for an Angler and Picnickers. Black Park in Wexham, Buckinghamshire is suggested by IMDb.

Returning to the road, Sir Jocelyn brings the car to a halt near to a house.

Miss Woollie asks two Men cutting their hedge if they know of a crossroads where a gibbet used to stand.

The Men think before mentioning Gallows Corner and directing her to continue straight ahead.

Speeding away, Sir Jocelyn races through a ford and knocks down a fingerpost which John spots was pointing the way to Clouston.

Realising that the name of the location had changed over time, Miss Woollie leads everyone to the village church. The church of St. Mary the Virgin in Harefield, Greater London.

Antony comments that the tree has done well over the last 52 years.

Miss Woollie looks around the graveyard but can't find the sign they are looking for. St. Mary the Virgin church on Church Hill, Harefield which also appears in ‘Carry On Emmannuelle’, ‘Cry of the Banshee’ and ‘The Cherry Picker’.

When Miss Woollie suggests that they search inside the church, they all enter and find a plaque commemorating the Battle of Clews. St. Mary the Virgin church on Church Hill, Harefield in Greater London.

Ron and Mr. Perry are sent back to the house by an angry Mr. Prendergast. Outside Bray Court, Bray located by James Chandler. The name Bray Court is retained by one of the residential streets now occupying the site.

When the Deputy Mayor disregards the evidence presented to him, Miss Woollie and Jane go to find the Mayor while the boys and the ghosts return to Hermitage House. Village Road in Denham.

Reaching the Mayor's golf club, Miss Woollie and Jane are told that he's gone to a scrambling race for the day. Nick Williams found Maidenhead Golf Club on Shoppenhangers Road in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Hurrying off, Miss Woollie accelerates away. This is Maidenhead Golf Club, identified by Nick Williams.

Nick took this comparison adding that the clubhouse has been rebuilt twice since filming and there has been a long standing proposal to move the building to make way for housing.

An archery tournament is disturbed before Miss Woollie reverses from the targets.

Miss Woollie and Jane reach the scramble. Looks like a genuine event but where is Armitage Corner?

After getting caught up with the motorcyclists taking part in the scramble, Miss Woollie drives across fields towards the finish line where the Mayor has taken up position.

Mr. Prendergast (Ronnie Barker) finds his Ford Fairlane has been destroyed by two Crane Drivers as they do battle with the jibs of their machines. The grounds of Bray Court, James Chandler tells us, with a bus travelling towards Windsor along Windsor Road in the background.

On the balcony of the house, John and Mike prepare to pour a bin full of water onto Mr. Prendergast as he approaches the front door. The frontage of Bray Court located by James Chandler.
