Capt. Steve Anderson (Alex Nicol) arrives in the UK to be met by his brother Harry Anderson (Michael Alexander). Almost certainly London Airport.

After a drink Harry drops Steve off at his hotel. At the time of filming The Berkeley Arms Hotel now the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 745 Bath Road, Cranford, Hounslow TW5 9QE.

69 years later, Antony Blair returned to the location.

After a mistaken telephone call and subsequent meeting Steve takes Brenda Lucas (Ursula Howells) home. Ray Glenister found, despite the dark capture, Whitehead's Grove, Chelsea, London SW3

This is the east entrance off Whitehead's Grove into the Cranmer Court development. SJ

Steve finds Brenda’s purse in his pocket and returns to her flat….to find Brenda dead....and his brother. Here, Ray finds Steve outside central block of Cranmer Court, 111-146 Whitehead's Grove, Chelsea, London SW3. This apartment block can also be seen in 'The Long Arm' and 'Double Exposure'.

The central block has two entrances. This is the east one. SJ

Steve goes to meet with Marcia Farrell (Veronica Hurst), Brenda’s flat mate, at the ‘Stein Beckfield Gallery' that has ‘The Gilded Cage’ painting by Degas. St. Mary Abbot’s Court (68-112), Warwick Gardens, London W14

It's now changed its access to 71-112 with 68-70 round the side. SJ

And they leave by cab. Warwick Gardens looking across to Kensington High Street.

Steve agrees to drop Marcia off at the theatre. A capture for the location detail. Rowan Road, Hammersmith, London W6 looking towards Hammersmith Road and the distinctive Rose and Crown pub. Rowton House can be seen dominating the top right hand corner.

Nothing recognisable now, but very similar to Keep it Clean capture 12. SJ

Steve pays off the taxi. Rowan Road, Hammersmith, London W6 and the Kings Theatre that was closed and demolished in 1963. The theatre and Rowan Road also appear in 'Keep It Clean', 'Charley Moon' and 'The Dark Man'.

Only to find himself emerging from a hatch on a boat on the River Thames apparently going down stream. Oliver’s Wharf, Wapping High Street, top left of centre.

With redevelopment on the south bank of the river making an accurate comparison difficult, this is a closer view of Oliver's Wharf. (PW)

“Where d’you spring from?” Steve asks him to turn round but it looks as if they have as that white building is ‘The Prospect of Whitby’ behind the captain's head.

John Harwood supplied this but isn't it reversed? (SJ)

Steve decides to ‘take the plunge’ and swim ashore! The following morning Marcia asks him to meet him at the theatre at 8am. Ray confirms this to be Rowan Road, looking toward the Rose and Crown in Hammersmith Road.

And this is the second building after the theatre was demolished. SJ

But it was a trap, he escapes. Rowan Road.

The building to the right remains. SJ

He takes a cab to Marcia’s flat, now she is missing. As with Captures 3 and 4, Ray finds Steve outside central block of Cranmer Court, 111-146 Whitehead's Grove, Chelsea, London SW3. This apartment block also appearing in 'The Long Arm' and 'Double Exposure'.

The tree has thickened. SJ

But Sumarko (Charles Wade), her butler, sees it happen. Warwick Gardens but I am having difficulty in identifying the exact background houses.

I'm not surprised about the background houses, completely swept away for a high rise. And only the south end of St Mary Abbot's Court remains to prove the location. SJ

Harry gives the pursuing policeman the slip. Upper Mall, Hammersmith with the sign for ‘The Old Ship’ on the left hand side. The gantry went from the waterside to the pumping station on the far right out of sight.

This is a RPV, with 'The Old Ship' to the immediate right being the only possible public access following all the re-development and building.

The bicycle was unchained from the steps just in the nick of time.
