French journalist Pierre Lemaire (Frank Villard) makes his way to the offices of solicitors Rumbold & Rumbold after the murder case against Victoria Martin is adjourned for three days when she rejects her appointed Defence Council in favour of someone who sincerely believes that she is innocent. 13 Fitzroy Square, London W1. Persuaded by his wartime friend to act for Miss Martin, Nap Rumbold visits Inspector Hobson at Scotland Yard to learn more about victim Julian Welles. To the left stands the southernmost of the two Norman Shaw Buildings on Derby Gate in SW1.

The building work and new gates make this rather an unsatisfactory comparison but perhaps the view will improve. SJ

Watched by a Man in the shadows across the road, Nap and Pierre return to the solicitor's flat after visiting the murder scene at the Hotel Provence where owner Henri Santos and his Staff, along with guest Miss Roper, refuse to answer questions about the case. Realising that the answers he seeks are to be found in France, Nap catches the Night Ferry to Paris. This must be the most frequently used footage of a train speeding through a station in British film history!

As the murder case continues at the Old Bailey with barrister Pelton now acting for Miss Martin, Nap Rumbold (John Justin) arrives in Avignon after encountering Jaqueline Delbois on the journey.

In the city centre, Nap visits the Post Office where he enquires about Welles at the poste restante counter. Facing the 14th century Papal Palace in Avignon, Provence.

As Nap leaves the Post Office, the poste restante Clerk signals to a Street Photographer waiting outside.

Reaching the front of the building, the Street Photographer takes a picture of Nap as he approaches along the pavement.

Nap takes a cab to visit Maitre Gaston Gimelet.

Madame Gimelet throws Nap out of the house when his enquiries about Santos and Julian Welles upset her husband, but not before the sick man points to a bottle of wine.

After Nap is warned to return home by a Stranger in his hotel room and Pierre is attacked in a London amusement arcade, more Witnesses are called at the Old Bailey. The dome of the Central Criminal Court at the corner of Holborn Viaduct and Old Bailey at London’s EC1 and EC4 boundary.

Following the clue given by Maitre Gimelet, Nap drives to the Moulin Vert vineyard just outside Avignon.

Getting out of his 2CV, Nap wanders towards the house.

When approached by a Labourer, Nap explains that he's looking for Monseiur Valdi.

With Valdi away, the Caretaker shows Nap to the cellar when he explains that he has come to purchase wine.

Nap drives from the vineyard after the Labourer tampers with his car's steering.

On a bend, the Citroën hits a wall after Nap loses control.

Recovering himself after getting out of the damaged car, Nap spots an house not far away.

Borrowing a bicycle from the remote property, Nap makes his way back to Avignon as Colonel Wright, Luigi Camino and Mrs. Gwendolyn Roper are being cross-examined in court.

That evening, after being told to return to London by Mlle. Delbois, Nap follows instructions received by phone from a friend of Julian Welles.

Making his way to a closed bar, Nap is taken by an Old Woman to a derelict building by the river where he's attacked.

While Nap reports his assault to the Police, Vicki Martin (Andrée Debar) takes to the stand and explains to the court how she killed an enemy Soldier during the war to save her lover Julian Welles.

A phone call is received by the Commissaire de Police in Avignon which prompts Officers to be dispatched.

Police arrive at the Moulin Vert estate where Nap and Pierre have been captured by Georges Valdi and his Gang of counterfeiters.

After Valdi and the gang Members are arrested, invoices to Berthini in London are discovered at the vineyard. Outside number 53 Charlotte Street W1 with properties on Goodge Street in the left background.

While Nap and Pierre fly back to London on the day that the verdict is expected, Scotland Yard Detectives arrive at the Soho wine shop. The junction of Charlotte Street and Goodge Street.
