Eleanor Lance drives out of a car park in her home town of Boston. Christopher Matheson says that Julie Harris is driving up the ramp from a real car park which was beneath Austral House (the address was Basinghall Avenue) but this shows the back of the building which faced onto London Wall. So the south side of London Wall is to the right of the image. (RL)
Peter notes that the new Austral House is an apartment block.

Eleanor "Nell" Lance (Julie Harris) checks directions to Hill House. Christopher goes on to say that "She pauses at the top of the ramp and that is the view south into Coleman Street from the corner of London Wall. The building at left is the Armourers' and Brasiers' Hall." (RL)

The route out of Boston is signposted. To complete his hat-trick Christopher places this as "The brickwork behind the road sign is the Armourers' and Brasiers' Hall. The buildings at left are north of London Wall and on the east side of Moorgate. The corner building is 74 Moorgate." (RL)
Peter visited the location to find that the view is almost unchanged.

An expectant, but obviously unbalanced, Nell drives through New England along Route 50. We are indebted to Anthony McKay who has shared his research with us, identifying this as Tring Road in Edlesborough, Hertfordshire with Pine Trees Garage to the left.

The turn off for Route 238 and the road to Hill House. Anthony tells us that this is facing north-east on Tring Road, Edlesborough with The Traveller's Rest public house at the junction of Leighton Road and Main Road North in the centre distance.
Antony Blair captures the same scene today, with the pub hidden behind the feather banners and the tall poplar tree still going strong!

The journey takes Nell past houses with stone lions guarding their gates. The house is Sallow Copse on the B4506 in Ringshall to the north of Berkhamstead in Hertfordshire which has been located by Anthony McKay.

After Nell arrives at the gates to Hill House, the caretaker, Mr Dudley (Valentine Dyall), appears when she sounds the horn. Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire advises Anthony McKay who adds that the gates are props erected at the start of a wooded driveway in a private part of the estate.

Hill House comes into view. Ettington Hall, Ettington near Alderminster in Warwickshire, which can also be seen in 'The Watcher in the Woods'.
Sean Kaye-Smith paid a visit to the location and captured a similar view.
