With her suitcase packed for a quick getaway after work, Jenny Hawthorn (Lisa Daniely) leaves home and calls next door for Mary Hollins. David Hilton was there and watched filming take place as he lived in nearby Sergeant Street. David adds "I'd just returned from holiday in Cleveleys near Blackpool where I saw a scene being shot at an ice cream van on Blackpool promenade".

The workers arrive for their last shift before the holiday. Horrockses Factory Gate on Stanley Street, Preston, Lancashire identified by Paul D. Swarbrick.

Jenny and Mary pass through the mill's gates. Looking out through the gateway of Horrockses onto Stanley Street, Preston found by Preston expert, Paul D. Swarbrick. And in the background stands the spire of the now deconsecrated St. Mary's Church.

Last minute cigarettes are put out as the whistle sounds. Paul advises that this is Horrockses' Factory Gate on Stanley Street, Preston.

After the workers have left for wakes week, Nathaniel Jeffcote and his son Alan (Brian Worth) meet Chris Hawthorn (Leslie Dwyer) in the deserted mill.

The Hindle to Blackpool special leaves for the coast. Peter Brown places this as Preston, now Platform 6 but Platform 8 when it was filmed following considerable changes. The round arch over an entrance to the now demolished Butler Street ticket office can be seen top left. (RL)

The Winter Gardens welcomes the visitors from Hindle. Coronation Street, Blackpool. The building was also seen in 'Dick Barton Strikes Back'.

Alan and George walk along the Promenade. Steve Randall noticed that the writing on top of the background buildings reads R. SEED & CO who were the owners of Foxhall in Blackpool, the building at the extreme left. It was built in 1660 but demolished in 1990 to be replaced with a red-brick building with the same name. Therefore this view is from the corner of the Promenade and Foxhall Square in Blackpool.

Water too cold?

A slight altercation takes place between Tommy and Alan with regard to Jenny. The Open Air Baths on the South Shore, Blackpool.

Alan and Tommy go boating. Harry Hulme points out that this sequence does not take place in Blackpool, not even in the north of England, being shot at Battersea Funfair in Battersea Park, London SW11 which was established during the Festival of Britain in 1951.

After finding each other at the Pleasure Beach and visiting the top of Blackpool Tower, Alan and Jenny get closer whilst riding on an open top tram. Promenade, Blackpool in Lancashire.

Alan picks Jenny up from the boarding house and the pair head off to Llandudno.

This is Bay View End now, complete with tram ascending the Great Orme.

The couple sit and talk on the Great Orme. The tip of Llandudno Pier can be seen to the right.

A bit of an awkward one this. There's no access closer to the location but the pier can still be seen through the trees.

Back in Blackpool, Tommy finds Mary on the beach and suggests that they go sailing.

Jenny and Alan make their way with the crowds along the Pier to board a sea trip to Fleetwood. Llandudno, Conwy County, Wales.

Alterations to the kiosks are apparent when looking landward from Llandudno Pier now.

At the end of wakes week, Jenny waits to board the 'Ribble' bus back to Hindle.
