I’ve Gotta Horse

Billy and Bert head to an auction to buy a sheepdog. This is the A47 Birmingham to Great Yarmouth road at the junction with Branch Road that runs to Halvergate in Norfolk. The windmill still stands.

Mark Alford drove along the same section of road for this comparison.

After purchasing a 40 guinea horse, Billy and Bert return to town. Looking south west on Bridge Road in Great Yarmouth.

Malcolm Tinnelly's capture shows the same junction but with the new Pasteur Road going straight on. Pasteur Road was created on the old railway line running into Yarmouth South Town station which stood just along Southtown Road from the junction.

The pair arrive back at the theatre where rehearsals are waiting for Mr. Fury. The Royalty Theatre on Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, opened as the Royal Aquarium and became known as the Hollywood Cinema.

The theatre is now the ARC Cinema as Malcolm's comparison shows.

South Quay captured by Malcolm Tinnelly who adds "Just beyond is the junction with Hall Plain, where South Quay becomes Hall Quay. The distant buildings are also on Hall Quay, where the road takes a sharp right from the quayside and to become Stonecutters Way.

Also taken from the beach, rather than Britannia Pier, Malcolm Tinnelly explains that the public were denied access onto the pier whilst a multitude of trades were putting the finishing touches prior to the grand re-opening on the following Saturday.

Beginning on the theatre's stage, a dance number ventures outside.

The Bachelors (Colneth Cluskey, Declan Cluskey and John Stokes) approach as Billy and Bert (Leslie Dwyer) watch while Armitage is put through his paces.

Billy tells Bert that The Bachelors are nutty as they leave to find their mounts ready for the next number.

Bert gives Billy the sad news that Armitage has died from pneumonia. Russ Williamson advises that this is alongside what was the Royal Aquarium on North Drive in Great Yarmouth.

A devastated Billy makes his way along the coast. The mouth of the River Yare. Malcolm Tinnelly updates us that this southern tip of the town at the Yare Estuary is no longer accessible to the public due to its redevelopment as an extension to the port.

With the help of a royalty cheque, Hymie acquires a new horse, Anselmo. Tolworth Tower on Tolworth Broadway, Surbiton in Surrey. The high rise office block can also be seen in 'The Sandwich Man'.

It was a rainy day when Mark Alford returned to the location.

The road layout has since been altered in front of The White Swan on North Quay, Great Yarmouth.
