The worse for an evening’s drinking Inspector Frederick Abberline (Michael Caine) is summoned to visit DSC Arnold (Edward Judd), where he is told “he needs a rest”, following newspaper reports that the police have lost control of London. Nonetheless Abberline goes to visit the scene of the crime with his Sergeant George Godley (Lewis Collins). Sandy's Row, E1 with the coach outside the Sandy's Row Synagogue.

Had I waited for this group to depart another was waiting to take their place.

A studio set included for completeness. Buck's Row is now Durward Street, London E1 and Mary Ann Nichols would have been found +/- where the entrance to the Underground is now situated. Simon Ballard advises that this set was built within the grounds of the then abandoned Holloway Sanatorium, now a gated development known as Virginia Park.

Abberline obtains agreement to postpone the inquest but is then summoned once again to Arnold because the Commissioner is wanting an immediate resolution. As in Capture 3, Sandy's Row, E1 with thanks to Colin Nash for the identification.

Prince Albert Victor, Queen Victoria’s grandson, arrives at the films 'Lyseum Theatre' to see the American actor Richard Mansfield (Armand Assante) in the lead role of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. In the audience is a reporter from ‘The Star’ newspaper, Benjamin Bates (Jonathan Moore) and Robert James Lees (Ken Bones) fortune teller/clairvoyant to the Queen who believes he has ‘seen’ the killer, who it transpires, looks very similar to Richard Mansfield. 10 Trinity Square, London EC3 with Trinity House in the background.

Thankfully no crowd whilst I was there.

No chance of a Royal coach being used but a freelance driver tells them that he can always ‘find’ a coach to someone’s requirements. Simon Ballard kindly sends us this comparative shot revealing the more currently accepted transport of Oxford.

Abberline updates the Commissioner, Sir Charles Warren (Hugh Fraser) with regard to the delicate turn of events and with him is invited to meet with the Prime Minister.

The restoration work on the Elizabeth Tower certainly made its mark.

Abberline and Godley analyse every aspect of the cases and the possibility that two people are involved. Meanwhile a coach, once again dressed with the Royal crest travels the streets at speed. I believe this to be a set as the architecture matches ground floor capture backgrounds, particularly during the opening credits. It is likely that is part of the then abandoned Holloway Sanatorium, now a gated development known as Virginia Park, given that Simon Ballard advises that sets were built within the grounds.

The tension grows. Elements of this scene match those seen during the opening credits and therefore a studio set included for completeness. Simon Ballard advises that this set was built within the grounds of the then abandoned Holloway Sanatorium, now a gated development known as Virginia Park.

The fifth victim Mary Jane Kelly and the most brutally murdered is found dead at her home in 13 Millers Court off Dorset Street. On 28 June 1904 Dorset Street was renamed Duval Street. In 1920, the Corporation of London purchased Spitalfields Market and planned a major expansion which resulted in the construction of the Fruit Exchange and the demolition of the north side of Duval Street (including Miller’s Court) in 1928.

E1 7NF. Today, in the area where Dorset Street and Miller's Court used to be, there's a nameless thoroughfare that squeezes between the White's Row car park on one side and a row of industrial units on the other. Our guide told us that 13 Miller's Court was approximately where the panel of lights are.

The Cabinet accepts the resignation of Commissioner Warren but Adderline still wants his help. He duly gets that help and with the co-operation of John Netley they ‘get their man’, but anything more would be a spoiler. Houses of Parliament viewed from Albert Embankment.

I never did work out how to obtain the exact angle for this shot.
