Pat Cleary draws out attention to a video on YouTube that explains why, in the early 1800s, the British Army went to the trouble and expense of building a very long road in the middle of nowhere across the then inaccessible Wicklow mountains. The video can be found here.

If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

After his wife dies whilst giving birth to a daughter instead of the 'required' son, Sir Hector Geste visits an orphanage to select an heir. Glencree Barracks in the Wicklow Mountains, County Wicklow located by Steve Randall.

Pat Cleary advises that "The former British Army Barracks date from 1806 and later became a Reformatory. Much demolition and rebuilding has taken place but this original building remains as part of the the Glencree Peace and Reconciliation Centre formed in 1974 during the Northern Ireland conflict known as "The Troubles". Just to the left of shot the former Barracks Armoury building is now the "Armoury Cafe" a favourite stop-off spot for hikers, cyclists and tourists alike." The location can also be seen in 'Where's Jack?'.
