Law and Disorder (1958)

In 1938, Percy Brand is released from prison after one of his sentences handed down by Judge Sir Edward Crichton. The main entrance of Wandsworth Prison on Heathfield Road, London SW18. Confidence trickster Percival Henry Brand (Michael Redgrave) heads to 'Bennie' Bensuson's antique shop.

Now dressed as a man of the cloth and kitted out as if he's returned from China, Percy arrives at the home of his sister Florence and his son Colin. With thanks to "sandgrounder" of Britmovie Forum who resolves another. Limerston Street, London SW10 with the junction into Gertrude Street going off left.

In 1946, Florence (Joan Hickson) collects Percy by cab after he's released from another spell behind bars. Looking along Heathfield Avenue towards Wandsworth Prison.

The taxi takes Percy to the docks where Colin is expecting to meet his father off a liner from the far east.

Colin Brand (Jeremy Burnham) waits on the quayside as Percy sneaks on board the moored liner.

Catching sight of his father, Colin calls to Percy who's now dressed as a Lieutenant Colonel returning from a prisoner of war camp.

Following studies to become a barrister, Colin is admitted to the outer bar. The quad at the Royal Masonic School for Boys on The Avenue in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

The proud father, released again after a further seven years inside, congratulates his son. The Royal Masonic School for Boys closed in 1977 and the site has been given over to residential use, becoming Royal Connaught Park.

Colin tells his father that he's to be a marshal for Judge Sir Edward Crichton. The Royal Masonic School for Boys in Bushey was also seen in 'It's Great to be Young' and 'Lucky Jim'.

Percy makes his escape just before Colin is about to introduce the Judge. The Royal Masonic School for Boys.

Having retired from a life of crime, Percy moves to the seaside. This is Parrog near Newport in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

As Percy begins to smuggle brandy inside a rubber shark with pub landlord Freddie Cooper and Colonel Masters, Colin and Judge Crichton sit at the Cheston assizes.

The next town on the Judge's circuit is at Banbridge.

Masquerading as Major Proudfoot, crook George Philpot (Lionel Jeffries) watches former cellmate Percy as he follows another spirit filled shark from the shore. Parrog in Pembrokeshire.

On the beach, Philpot outlines a fraud involving non-existent emeralds and Percy agrees to join in.

A fanfare is played as the Judge arrives at Duncaster assizes.

The rest of Philpot's gang arrive at the coast.

As the plan is put into action, Percy is driven to Creekford Harbour disguised as a Customs Official from London. Approaching Fishguard Harbour on Quay Road in Goodwick, Pembrokeshire.

Leaving Ivan (Michael Trubshawe) dressed as a policeman standing by the car, Percy goes inside the Customs Hall.

When Judge Crichton arrives at the harbour to meet his Wife from the Continent, Percy makes his escape and the gang speed away. Fishguard Harbour in Goodwick, Pembrokeshire.

Policemen join in the chase as Percy tricks them into believing that he is also part of the pursuit. The steps descending to the subway from the platforms at Fishguard Harbour station.

Percy manages to get away in a speedboat. To the left runs the North Breakwater at Fishguard Harbour, Pembrokeshire.

The Police Inspector (Allan Cuthbertson) from Creekford arrives as Sergeant Bolton holds onto Percy after he comes ashore.

Continuing on the circuit, Judge Crichton marches to court followed by Colin.

A police car conveys Percy to the cells, ready for the forthcoming hearing.

Horrified at his bad luck, Percy peers at the Judge through the back window of the car.

Colonel Masters (Ronald Squire) joins in a scheme to incriminate Judge Crichton that will prevent him hearing Percy's case. Geoff Dodd identifies this as Kendal Hall, now Radlett Preparatory School, Watling Street in Radlett, Hertfordshire which is also seen in 'Cast a Dark Shadow' as well as the television series 'The Avengers' episode 'From Venus With Love'. When the Judge and Colin find themselves on Vickery's (Reginald Beckwith) land, a gun is held to Sir Edward. Littleton Park House at Shepperton Studios in Surrey. The much seen building was used in 'The Night We Got the Bird', 'The Belles of St. Trinian's', 'The Great St. Trinian's Train Robbery' and 'The Earth Dies Screaming'.

Following his arrest, a van is sent to collect Judge Crichton from the police station. Loom Lane, Radlett, Hertfordshire. (SR)

With Percy and Sir Edward getting along fine in the back, the police van pulls onto the courthouse driveway. This is County Hall and the old crown court in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey identified by Mark Nicholas.

To a fanfare, Judge Crichton marches into the building after telling his marshal to make arrangements for departure on the midday train.

The railway part of the station now consists of just one platform with much of the site being given over to car parking. (PW)

Percy accompanies the Judge after being acquitted due to coming to know Sir Edward socially.
