Hanley (Peter Bowles) enlists Dr. Lionel Barrett (Clive Revill). Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. The country house is also seen in 'Diamonds for Breakfast', ‘The Avengers’, 'Percy's Progress', ‘Barry Lyndon’, ‘Saraband For Dead Lovers’, ‘Half a Sixpence’ and ‘Spectre’.

Had we paid extra and viewed inside the Palace I could have achieved the correct angle. (RL)

Roydon Station, Roydon in Essex was a quick stop off for Asa Harris en route to Stansted but the barrier was down so he couldn't get the same angle as seen in the film.

Asa Harris found St Catherine's Church, which is an unlikely location situated at the top of a small, steep country lane that would be awkward for a film unit to get to! Unfortunately he couldn't get the same angle seen in the film as there is now a huge tree in the way.

This post script features a selection of comparison views taken inside Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire by Nicholas Joy. Here, during the opening credits, the visit by Dr. Barrett and his wife Ann to the dying Mr. Deutsch begins in the Great Hall of Blenheim Palace.

Nicholas tells us that we're looking up at the ceiling painting by Sir James Thornhill which depicts the Duke of Marlborough's victory at the Battle of Blenheim.
