Life with the Lyons

The film opens with a view through Cumberland Gate of buses passing Marble Arch on Tyburn Way in London W1.

The expansion of the north of Park Lane in the 1960s as well as dangerous accessibility to the road makes the following comparisons approximate. SJ

Looking like a prop, a street sign sets the scene for those unfamiliar with the area. Behind the fence is The Ring, long since replaced by the northbound carriageway of Park Lane.

The procession continues through the Hyde Park Estate, bringing the Lyon family to their new house. Looking towards the since redeveloped Oxford Square from Hyde Park Crescent W2.

Southacre now covers the west side of Oxford Square and conceals the north side. SJ

To the left, St. John’s church comes into view as the camera pans with Richard.

Much more cluttered now as St. John's entrance was almost directly on the street of Southwick Crescent, now Hyde Park Crescent. SJ

Leaning from one of the cabs, Barbara Lyon (Barbara Lyon) looks for the new family home. Facing Hyde Park Crescent in W2. The area appears in ‘The Walking Stick’, 'No My Darling Daughter', 'Smart Alec', 'Percy’, ‘Percy’s Progress’, 'The Hangman Waits' and ‘Two a Penny’.

Having reached their destination, each vehicle comes to a halt. The properties at this end of Hyde Park Street have been completely replaced.

Steve Randall found that Foyles Bookshop has moved to 107 Charing Cross Road and the old site at 111-119 is being redeveloped as Ilona Rose House.

Nothing catches the eye. Foyles on Charing Cross at the corner of the unnamed passage between St. Martin’s School of Art and the bookshop.
