Limping Man, The

As flight 100 carrying Franklyn Pryor from New York to London taxis from the runway, a Sniper prepares to take his shot. Martin Underwood believes this to be London Airport as suggested by the storyline. (RL)

Franklyn Pryor (Lloyd Bridges) reaches towards a fellow Passenger as he falls to the ground when the Sniper fires.

Finding a photograph on the dead man identified as Kendall Brown, Inspector Braddock (Alan Wheatley) and Detective Cameron (Leslie Phillips) arrive at 39 South Hill Street in Chelsea. Dave W discovered the location to be the streets outside 47 Sloane Gardens in London SW1. (RL)

Neil Kenny revisited the location.

A pan follows the pair up the steps to the entrance of the lodging house where landlady Mrs. Ross (Marjorie Hume) answers the door as her Daughter (Jean Marsh) paints her nails. Dave W says that this is the portico to numbers 45 and 47 Sloane Gardens. (RL)

The photograph of a Woman is shown to Landlady who recognises her as a visitor who had called to see Mr. Kendall Brown earlier that morning. Looking onto Sloane Gardens from the door of number 47.

Neil Kenny looked into the street from outside the portico of number 47.

Spotting the Woman in the photo from Mr. Brown's room, Detective Cameron runs onto the street as she drives away following her latest call at the house. Looking north along Sloane Gardens SW1.

Neil Kenny found just as many parked cars.

Driving from South Hill Street, Pauline French (Moira Lister) arrives home to the film's number 7 Malvern Terrace.

The Maid lets Miss French into her apartment where she finds her wartime lover Franklyn waiting. Hanover Gate Mansions, Park Road NW1. (SR)

Renewing their relationship from six years ago, Pauline takes Franklyn on a trip along the Thames. Tower Bridge seen from the vicinity of Butler's Wharf in SE1.

When her motor yacht runs out of petrol, Pauline calls ashore for help.

A short while later, a launch sets out to assist. Looking towards Blythe Wharf in E14 and the conveyors that take coal from the moored barges to the Borough of Stepney Electricity power station on Narrow Street. The power station was decommissioned and demolished in 1972.

As they are towed from the centre of the river, Pauline points out the wharf where her boat is maintained. The premises of barge builders William Nathaniel Sparks stood at 94 Narrow Street, next to Duke Shore Stairs in Limehouse while those of mast and block makers George & William Lamb stand to the left in a building that is still extant.

Pauline asks the Boatman to refuel her yacht as she and Franklyn are ferried ashore. Now considerably further upstream and on the opposite bank, this is looking onto the River Thames from Church Stairs in Rotherhithe.

Access is now impeded by a gate as seen in comparison 17): this is the closest one can manage. SJ

Pauline and Franklyn climb the steps from the river. Church Stairs to the side of the Spread Eagle & Crown on Rotherhithe Street in SE16 located by Simon James (SJ).

The pub has been known as The Mayflower since 1957. SJ.

The pair make their way to a pub where the Landlord tells Pauline that someone wants to speak with her. SJ tells us that an earlier pub known as The Shippe stood on the site until being destroyed by fire in the 1800s.

This replaces my Jan shot which was impeded by scaffolding. SJ

When they leave the bar, Pauline tells Franklyn that she knew Kendall Brown, the man shot at the airport. Simon James locates this as outside The Spread Eagle & Crown at 117 Rotherhithe Street, which can also be seen in 'One Wish Too Many' and 'The Inn Way Out'.

After hailing a passing taxi, Pauline tells Franklyn that she wants to be left alone before running towards the waiting cab. Facing south on Rotherhithe Street with St. Marychurch Street to the right. SJ

Spotting a Limping Man leaving the pub, Franklyn follows but loses him at the bottom of the steps that end at the water's edge. Church Stairs in Rotherhithe SE16 found by SJ.

This drone shot from John Harwood shows that the stairs west of The Mayflower have been removed, and this may be the best one can do, though a dicey lean around the terrace of the pub may produce rewards... and indeed John confirms he tried a camera on a stick shot for the remaining steps. (SJ)

Pursuing Pauline and Franklyn from her flat, Inspector Braddock and Detective Cameron reach the bottom of the building's fire escape where Evans advises them that he's seen no one. Alpha Close NW1. (SR)

The fire escape was on the corner of the white wall: it was only recently taken down in 2024. SJ

At London Airport, Franklyn wakes up as flight 100 from New York lands and taxis towards the terminal. The plane is a Trans World Airline Lockheed 49 Constellation.

Getting off the plane, Franklyn runs from the terminal to find Pauline waiting for him. To the extreme left, Dave W recognised the 'Passenger Exit' on North Way at London Airport to the south of Bath Road in Harlington, Middlesex, as seen in 'Home to Danger' and 'Come Back Peter'. (RL)
