List of Adrian Messenger, The

A disguised George Brougham (Kirk Douglas) outside Australia House at the junction of Aldwych with The Strand, London WC2. The location features in 'The Common Touch', No Place for Jennifer', 'Touch and Go', 'Nobody Runs Forever' and 'Final Appointment'.

The trees don't seem to have grown that much over the last 50 years.

Brougham looks up at an apartment window where a light is showing. An additional capture prompted by correspondence with Lee Smith that shows the corner of Strand and Norfolk Street, since lost by redevelopment. The base of the building features in 'The Trygon Factor'.

Powerscourt Manor, County Wicklow, Ireland. The location also features in 'The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse'.

With the distinctive pillars, Simon James identifies this location as Cambridge Terrace, London NW1.

And he's right. The same location now.

Almost a reverse point of view from the previous capture. Cambridge Gate, alongside Regents Park's Outer Circle in NW1.

This time in daylight.

Slattery (Robert Mitchum) passes Tony Curtis after leaving a pub in the Lovells Wharf area of Greenwich SE10. It is suggested on other web sites that another actor played Tony's role in London and that the American did not appear in any London based scenes. However, David Webb tells us "Well, I got an autograph which said 'Tony Curtis' so I think he was there but because of the heavy makeup it could have been a stand-in. I would like to think, and I honestly do, that it was the great man himself."

This shot was take outside The Cutty Sark public house. The gas holder and chimney (behind the actors head in the screen shot) are the same.

A disguised Robert Mitchum wheels himself along Pelton Road SE10. This location is not far away from Caradoc Street where much of The Krays was filmed.

The same corner now completely redeveloped.

Anthony Gethryn (George C. Scott) crosses Banning Street SE10 with Inspector Pike (Bernard Archer) at the junction with Pelton Road with the Pelton Arms public house to the right.

Lovell's Wharf, London SE10. The whole area has been redeveloped. The river walk or tow path in front of Lovell's Wharf. The lamp at the end identifies where the path leaves the river and went down the incline to Ballast Quay. John Roberts. The location was seen in 'Bronco Bullfrog', 'Four in the Morning', 'Plenty' and 'Terry on the Fence'.

This may not be the exact location but it is in the same area. John Roberts states: probably the end of Ballast Quay part of 'Robbos' the scrap merchant; in those days just a small poorly lit path stretched along this part of the front. The main pier was used for unloading coal for Greenwich power station the four chimneys can be seen here and two can be made out in lam009n.

Anthony and Mrs. Slattery (Anita Sharp-Bolster). John Roberts tells us that he was filmed for the production. "While shooting at Ballast quay, John Huston gathered onlooking youngsters to play rugby as Robert Mitchum passed in his wheelchair. There were about six takes and I, on two occasions, bumped into Mitchum and ended on his lap. These shots never made the final cut, although there is a segment of me running in the released movie."

When playing the film this appears to be very close to the same location. Opposite The Cutty Sark Tavern on Ballast Quay London SE10.

This appears to be near Lovell's Wharf and the sign is for the Cutty Sark Tavern which is close by on Ballast Quay. John Roberts adds: This was an area behind the houses at the far end of Ballast Quay (around the corner from Lovell's Wharf) and was in Lassell Street. The sign was sighted there indicating a back entrance to the Cutty Sark tavern or even to advertise its presence from that direction. The Lassell Dtreet end of Ballast Quay was not very inviting and was dominated by the scrap yard.

This may not be a 'Reel Street' but it is a 'Real Sign'. It appears that it has been moved but note the same ironwork.

Tony Curtis is unmasked at the end of the film. John Roberts tells us "The Cutty Sark Tavern had a Thames barge moored permanently at the quay. In this picture it looks like the barge is over Tony Curtis's right shoulder and the same mast and boom arrangement can be seen in capture 6. Also, the barges further down river look like Thames commercial barges. Finally the crane over Curtis's left shoulder can also be seen in capture 6, albeit slightly rotated. I would deduce that the picture was taken in Greenwich at Ballast Quay probably on the Cutty Sark's seating area in front of the barrel organ; based on comparing the two images. This would also blow another hole in the rumour that Curtis did not come to film in London; a scoop!"
