Round a corner he carries out a drug transaction.

Hayden's Place, W11 looking east into Portobello Road. Considerably changed though the architecture on the Tesco Metro, now Express (nos. 224-6), far left remains. SJ

He chances across an acquaintance Sylvie (Emer McCourt). Golborne Road railway bridge.

Soothing colours are now adorning the bridge walls.

Clint walks with Sylvie down the street. They are heading for a rave. 75 Golborne Road, W10.

To the left of the door, a vertical strip of the wall's roughened surface remains. Trellick Tower peeps through greenery.

Two shady-looking characters approach and walk past Clint. The Caernarvon Castle, 310 Portobello Road W10.

310 Portabello has gone through various invocations since the Caernarvon Castle closed, most recently as a pop-up restaurant for the summer.

At the rave Clint is beaten up, and made to strip by dealers searching for drugs. He is thrown on the street. Portobello Green Canopy, 281 Portobello Road W2.

The canopy has retained its shape, with the roof replaced in 2003.

Outside he searches for clothes among bags of rubbish. Portobello Green Canopy.

The canopy is located next to Portobello Green which holds markets Friday to Sunday. Taken on a Thursday when all is quiet.

A jewellery shop...

...which has become "Aladdin's Cave"

...provides shelter for the night. 198 Portobello Road.

Now its visitors remain vertical.

Clint is offered a menial job in a restaurant, as long a he can find a decent pair of shoes. His friend Muffdiver (Steven Mackintosh) congratulates him. 105 Golborne Road, W10.

This is now a card and gift shop, next to a phone box transformed into a cash machine and scribbling pad.

A posh user, Headley (Fiona Shaw), is being interviewed in the street by a TV crew.

Homeless Clint needs to find a place to squat. A tall building is nearby with an unoccupied storey. In the film it's 14 Whitehall Gardens. In reality it's unidentified.

The target is on the top floor. Clint has to climb the drainpipe and break a window to enter.

Muffdiver whistles to attract his mate. 85A Portobello Road.

Now with more colourful shops.

He tells his mate about the squat. 91 Portobello Road.

Now a popular area of the street.

Muffdiver sees Sylvie get into a taxi with a well-to-do man. Facing north from 104 Golborne Road.

No major changes here.

Attracting her attention he gives her the address of the squat before she is driven off. Golborne Road facing southwest at the junction with Portobello Road.

That's still a post office on the left.

He comes across another pusher, Burns (Tony Haygarth), and spreads the word to him.

Clint hangs around waiting for customers.

A German couple (Sean Pertwee and Pippa Hinchley) approach. Clint sells them accommodation in the squat. Talbot Road, facing 199 Portobello Road W2.

Still a busy junction for pedestrians.

Clint meets with his crowd in the local pub. The Colville, 186 Portobello Road, which re-opened in 2016 as The Ginstitute, a gin distillery making ‘Portobello Gin’.

Things are much more floral at the Ginstitute.

Clint is on his way to supply posh customer Headley as he passes the Electric Cinema, 191 Portobello Road.

Less redundancy in its use of film posters today.

The crew leave the squat for a day out in the country. Neighbour Dr. Bubba (Roshan Seth) looks on... Chepstow Villas, circa nos 27-33 as well as no50 opposite, have this sort of arrangement. (SJ)

I feel able to conclude that it's no50 on the north side of the street: a pity Seth's balcony is obscured though. SJ

...and meet Clint's mother Lily (Eleanor David) hanging out the washing. He has arranged the trip to visit his mum.

Clint heads back to the squat. 198 Portobello Road, looking southeast.

It's just as crowded today on the pavement with the market in full swing.

He finds that the squatters have been thrown out by heavies acting for the owner.

Burns takes Clint to meet with Muffdiver, who tells him he is leaving town to chill out. He hands Clint a pair of boots so he can start his job..
