Long Haul, The

A lorry approaches George Mills' Transport depot as, inside, Harry gets work as a driver. Victoria Dock Road in London E16 identified by members of the Britmovie forum.

On his first overnight journey, Harry pulls into Mac's transport cafe. Could this be Mac's Cafe, Padworth on Bath Road between Reading and Thatcham in Berkshire?

Rival haulage company owner Joe Easy (Patrick Allen) watches as Harry drives away with Lynn.

Giving a lift to Joe's girlfriend, Harry pulls into the Riverside Rooms. The location also appears in 'The Passing Stranger' and is identified by Steve Randall as the former Five Alls public house on Wycombe Road at Studley Green to the south east of Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire. Wendy Brown adds that the Five Alls was a public house with stabling between 1875 and 1930. After closure the premises became a tea house until 1955 when the owner sold to Cleveland Petroleum and the site was rebuilt as a garage and filling station. Wendy moved in on the 7th May 1956 along with her parents and been there ever since.

Steve Randall's view shows an extension to the building as well as that part of the original site since taken over by a car servicing business.

The lorry is stolen and robbed whilst Harry and Lynn spend the night together. Looking from the car park of the Five Alls onto Wycombe Road at Studley Green in Buckinghamshire. The background bungalows have been replaced but the building to the extreme left remains.

Harry loses his position and seeks work at the docks.

After offering Harry a job driving to Scotland, Joe leaves a billiard hall.

The crooked businessman watches as Lynn (Diana Dors) enters the building.

Lynn waits for Harry by the river. On the Thames Path running alongside the river in King Edward VII Memorial Park, Shadwell E1. The location was also seen in 'Hunted'.

After accepting Joe's job to Scotland, the lorry arrives at a small jetty. Blairmore Pier on Loch Long and the Clyde estuary in Blairmore to the north of Dunoon, Argyllshire located by David Johnson.

David proves the location with this shot of Blairmore Pier and Andy McArthur adds "Berthed at the pier is the paddle steamer Waverley, the last ocean going paddle steamer in the world which was launched in 1946 at the A. & J. Inglis yard in Glasgow on the River Clyde. Blairmore is a remote spot and the Waverley would only call there a few times each season."

Returning from Scotland after Joe is killed, Lynn visits Harry's wife as the police keep watch.

Harry is reunited with his family and Lynn is driven away in a taxi.
